Why 108,000 mi for transmission oil change?

Why does Porsche recommend such a long interval to change the transmission fluid?

I understand the oil itself lasts a long time without breaking down, but don't abrasive and potentially damaging metal particles accumulate in this fluid, as they do in engine oil?
