19" or 20" wheels - Harsh Ride Difference
I thank everyone for weighing in, i spoke with matt at champion after seeing the above posts- i'm resolved to avoid the potential for controversy & stick with the 19 " ruger mesh hyper silver for now- matt gave me a smokin deal (approx $ 200 less than the other company i was going to order from) i may still venture into the 20" realm but not until i move up 1 inch for the time being.
thanks!

You will love your new wheels.
Continental tires- check tire rack!
Tire rack has both the wider fronts & rears - very good pricing on the extreme contacts- rears are closeout but fronts are reasonably priced also-
I to am wondering what the right choice is..
Some things to consider: weight of 19's, weight of 19inch rubber, and so forth for the 20's.
From what i have read the lobsters are the lightest rims on the 997's.
Also up sprung weight really effects a cars performance.. with heavy rims you will definatly notice a difference off the line, and throughout the rev band.
I think if moving up to 20's which what i will want to do when i get a 997 one has to really consider the weights of different rims and TIRES. because rolling mass is very important. because with heavy rims you will swallow a good chunk of difference between a carrera on light rims, and a carrera S on heavy 20's .
Something to consider

the right choice 19 or 20
i just went to the local porsche dealer- some of the new 991's have the 20" rims but the aspect ratio is 35- this is considerably more cushion than the 25 profile tires i was considering on my 997, so .... porsche has engineered for the 20" with the 991, which is fundamentally different than what is necessary to retrofit for the 997 - also i'd like to say - the look of the 19" is not like i am giving up much - i'm convinced i've made a good choice for looks as well as drivability !

I think you knew all along which size you were going with.
19" vs. 20" controversy
There actually was a cotroversy in my mind over this decision, having seen the 20" in a very seductive setting , i had been swayed- but thanks to all i learned in the last couple of days i was persuaded to keep it practical at least for now
I did, what size are you specifying for the fronts? I only show Conti's DWS for the fronts (235/30/20 or 245/30/20) and DW for the rears (325/25/20), the tread is different. I don't want mis-matched tires even if they are the same brand.
Why are you thinking of changing? I'm running the same setup you are, just curious.
tire rack comments & reason for change
I THOUGHT THESE EXTREME CONTACTS WERE A MATCHING TREAD- ANYWAY - WHY DON'T YOU CALL jERRY AT THE TIRE RACK 1 800 445 0179 X 376 - I'VE DEALT WITH HIM FOR 12 YEARS & HE IS A GREAT GUY
REGARDING THE REASON WHY I AM CHANGING IS STRICTLY AESTETICS- MY C4 HAS 18" S WHICH LOOK SMALL- SO MOVING UP WAS A MATTER OF DECIDING ON THE LOOKS & PRACTICALITY OF 19 VS. 20 (I HOPE I ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION)

Our suggestion would be to definitely go with 20" on the 997 in most cases! We have a few setups with 20" rolling on NYC for a couple of years without any issues. And anybody who knows anything about NYC, knows the state of the roads there.
We can help you out with any of our designs, whether you want a 19" or 20" setup, concave wheels, standard profile wheels, our LitePack option for weight savings, tons of different finishes, you name it! Let us know if you have any questions now.
Some examples!
