Porsche Magnetism
There's three kinds of people:
1)
The ones with a nice car who park next to you because they want to keep their car safe. They will respect your car, no matter how tight the spot, and know you will do the same for them.
2)
The ones who have a beat-up car and are oblivious to how expensive your car is, and how beat-up their car is. They will open the door wide, and ding your car, and walk away in complete ignorance. They don't mean ill, but they just don't know any better. I just want to know why they HAVE to park so far out next to you, when there are other closer spots?
3)
Then there are the people who have beat up cars. They know you have a nice car, and they know they don't, and they HATE it! They will go out of their way to park next to you, and they WILL ding your door--- on purpose.
Years ago, I had parked my nice new sports car (not a p-car) in a parking lot. I just happened to look out of the window of the building I was in... There was an open spot on the right side of my car. I watched as a young guy pulled into the spot, with his girlfriend in the passenger seat. I noticed that the girl kept staring at my car. I was horrified as this guy, using unusual force, swung open his door unnecessary wide and wacked my car as he got out of his beat-up old car. I was too far away to do or say anything. But I'm certain he did it out of jealousy.

4). Soccer moms that are only trying to survive the day and get to the bottom of their next glass of Merlot...
Yeah. No dings. We were mystified.
I don't know what it is about this car, but it seems to attract other cars in parking lots.
I got in early this morning and parked way to the right of this space leaving about 3 feet of space between my driver door and the dividing line. Get up to grab some coffee, and this is what I see...

Don't you wish you could pop rivet the offending cars door shut?
Open your little Dr. bag, pull out the rivet tool and bang away... Do the passenger door while you're at it...

I like the way you think!
I've seen that before. It was done on purpose and the perpetrator must have exited through the passenger door. These people have issues.
People don't realize what a paint job costs..It may be one of the most expensive components on the car... A factory paint job would cost 10K+
to have it repainted as it was delivered... Nobody gives a damn.
I'm to the point that I'll pursue a door dent and paint scratch as far as it takes go get it done and paid for by the perp.
It's not an victimless crime. Problem is being there when it happens and if I'm there it ain't gonna happen... Catch 22
OOPs, I'm rambling again....

The X5 driver did what I would have done. He thought "that Porsche driver doesn't want his car hit, so he definitely won't hit mine. I'll park closer to him and leave room on the other side."
Or maybe he just sucks like everyone else and you'll have a ding when you get down there

What I typically do when folks get that close to me when there's lots of room otherwise is before entering my car, I'll gently fold the other cars offending mirror in. They'll definitely notice that someone moved it and have to get out of their car to make it right and hopefully think twice about parking so close next time. It's non destructive.
In my younger and wilder days, I’d carry a tire valve tool. If someone parked way too close for my comfort, I’d remove not one but 2 valve stems. Nobody carries 2 spare tires…
