Pros & cons of X51 v. Aftermarket

Ordering an 06' "S" and I really like the idea of the factory tuned car even though its probably substantially more expensive (100% more??) than aftermarket mods, but no warranty issues, more importantly, would this help the car retain its value better than a standard car? I would think on a non turbo/GT3 car this would be a pretty good selling point.

I live in Phoenix and have great access to EVO so I can get good quality mods locally. Just a little hesistant about warranty.

would this help the car retain its value better than a standard car? probably not. if the option is 15,000 u'll probably getting 3~4k top back when u sell the car.

Pro is always the factory warranty u don't ever have to worry about the quality. Con is the $ tag. how long are u going to keep the car is another question.

I plan to keep the car for 4-5 years and drive it past the new car warranty. Let me ask, would a somewhat basic stage 1, full exhaust, airbox and ECU remap devalue the car and or void or infringe on the new car warranty??? What are people's experiences here?

Also on the 996 the hp/torque curve was pushed up the rev range with the X51. It offered more power, but did it at higher revs. I would wait a few thousand miles & break your engine in before you think about mods. Make sure you do not have the dreaded RMS leak first. I agree with what a lot of the other posters said, it really depends on your dealer. When I had a leak in aftermarket intake & exhaust, my dealer actually helped me seal them up. As for re-sale value the X51 will get you very little. I would suggest going with EVO. They do good work, and for the hp gain you are probably paying 1/3-1/2 what you pay with Porsche.

I have had a business relationship with the GM of the Porsche store which is helpful, he is a nice guy and helpful but also a pragmatic businessman so..... In addition, its a Penske dealership and the only authorized sales in Phoenix pop. 3.5 mil so they have us by the nutz if you buy locally. I do think that he and I would have a lot of sway in the service directors' office but you never know, I need to ask some direct questions, maybe Todd at EVO can shed some light as I'm sure he is interacted with them, they know who he is.

I think the x51 will include cylinder heads, I am just wondering if it will be possible to just get the heads or what I am waiting to see is if anyone will do an aftermarket heads and cams package since there is power to be gained there and keep the car NA.

I agree that there is substantial room for improvement, and I personally would be very happy with anything over 380 and I think EVO as well as some of the other tuners are hitting that and more with I/E and a remap. The car is good fun with 355 and chrono, I'd like some added noise (love the sound of the PSI car) and an honest shot at 4.0 to 60.

Road and Track got 3.9 in the 0 to 60, and if you haven't read it the article is great...IMO.

I don't understand how road and track got that E.T. and trap though. A gt3 makes a little more than 40 more hp at the wheels and yet road and track has it trapping lower than the carrera S in their performance index, can't be possible or the cars were just tested in different conditions but that still is a large difference in HP.
