Launching my 2008 Carrera S
I'll be taking it to the homestead speedway 1/8th mile drag strip. I'm curious if you guys with strip experience have any pointers. It's automatic and 100% stock. Thanks guys.
I haven't drag raced a 911, but since it is an automatic, I'd imagine it goes something like this:
1) Both feet on pedals.
2) Light turns green, remove your left foot from the brake pedal.
3) Drive straight.
Hope this helps.

thank you very much for that. I meant along the lines of tire pressures, should I leave from idle or foot on the accelerator, cheap rims that clear the rear suspension and brakes for drag radial and is it better to use the manual mode or just drive? Alittle more specific
but thanks.
check your local PCA website for their DE (Driver Education) page.
Here is the nasa page: http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/
Trust me, you WILL love it and might get hooked.
One of my laps... 1st time I was signed off to go solo (you typically have an instructor with you)

but thanks.- Set the tires on the driven wheels to about 32 psi. Experiment if you do this enough to care for more precision. Make sure the oil level is within half a quart of full. Do not overfill it trying to follow this advice.
- Left foot on the brake, with enough throttle to reach 3000 rpm as a guess. Possibly 3500. With a conventional automatic transmission in an American muscle car the point of this is to reach 'stall' which is too complex to explain off hand and may not apply to a Tiptronic in any case. I've never done a drag run in any European car, let alone a Porsche, but it won't harm the transmission even if Tiptronics work differently, and you save many tenths by getting the transmission into its full-torque mode before the light.
- At the light, left foot off brake and right foot to the floor. With a Tip, I'd let it do the shifting. Manual mode is for entertainment value and I doubt you can improve on the full-auto time and I've had automatics refuse to shift in manual mode under race conditions. I doubt a Tip would, but why risk an over-rev? Let it shift for itself would be my advice. If you have a 'sport' button, use that of course.
Check your oil level. Oil is a consumable, and high-rpm, high-power operation is when the engine consumes the most oil, so you may be half a quart down after a day at the track, whether it's a straight one or has twisty bits.
Sign up for DE days and find out how fast these cars really are.

I've been to the drag strip before. Just not in an tiptronic Porsche. Obviously ill see if I have any traction issues before I purchase them. Those zr1's are monsters trust me I know. I'm a Chevrolet technician.
If your goal is just a day out that s great... But I don t know why you want to drag a car like this? I ve taken my Silverados to the track with the club and had fun but nothing serious. You could buy a car at 1/2 the price and run better times. Whatever, just my 2 cents, Have a good time and good luck! Post us your times, I think we d all be interested. AND take some pics, Thanks
