Seems like a lot of money for 26HP. But the rarity will probably make it so you get every penny back when you sell.

Torque is more interesting than HP, imho

Thanks for the chart. It appears that 4500 rpm is the magic number.

If I looked at 2 cars all else being equal I'd pay a premium for the X51. It was a no brainer for my GTS.

I love the x51 option and I wish I had it on my C2S, but there is a premium for the extra HP. One can the same results by going on a diet . If not, then the car can stand to lose some weight.

Have you done the math? How much weight would you have to lose, in order to obtain the same hp/weight ratio as the X51 provides?

I do not know if it helps, but my certificate of conformity (from Porsche DE, based on my chassis and engine) gives a weight between 1495 and 1585 kg, if this helps.

As someone else pointed out, the HP increase is minimal, but the torque adds more area under the curve and that is great. All things being equal and using 3000 lbs (a simple round number) we get:

3000 lbs/355 HP = 8.45 HP per lb
3000 lbs/381 HP = 7.87 HP per lb

Solve for x:

x lbs/355 HP : 7.87 HP per lb
x = 2793.85 lbs
3000 lbs - 2793.85lbs = 206.15 lbs

I'm not so sure one can lose that much weight easily and this depends on the current car options. I know I can lose the worthless BOSE sub and seat backs. I do not have PSE so that saves a bit of lbs, but I have sport adaptive seats and the piggy sunroof so that is a wash there. This is going to be much tougher than one thought. So if I go on the Adkins diet, I can lose about 60 lbs, but then I probably wouldn't have the strength to keep my head up in a corner. However, my controversial looking 'lobster fork' wheels save a bit of unsprung weight along with my PCCBS. Looks like I just better add a turbo/SC, but then I wouldn't be 100% stock.

If Porsche produced a bare bones 997 (not going to happen now with the 991) similar to the RSA, I would be first inline to buy one.

My only point is that I am not sure that the weight of a X51 fitted car is the same of the standard one.
I guess that the LSD, the PSE will weight a little bit more.
No clue on the other components.

The HP increase is minimal, but the engine response and feel is more noticeable. I would love to have the X51, for there is nothing like a very well balanced normally aspirated engine. Anyone can throw a turbo or supercharger to make more HP. Don't get me wrong, I love HP. I believe my C2S can still lose additional weight, without getting in to GT3 category because I still require daily civility and conservative look. Ideally, I would love to have a GT3, C2S, RSA and an early 70's 911.

With that clearance kit at Suncoast, I think it is a good fun investment. The rarity of full x-51's should make it easy to recoup down the line. At the very least, the car would move a lot faster when you sell (and drive) it! I'm going the S/C route for the bigger gains and it is a proven technology on 911s.

DoninDEN,

I'm watching your thread. I've consider going FI either by way of third party or OEM - who doesn't like HP? I like the fact that the SC provides a linear response with no sudden power onset. And that makes for a very smooth and balanced approach. Where else can you gain 100 plus HP with minimal cost and invasiveness to the motor? How long will it take until you decide to increase the boost
