Unfortunate and not a low budget repair.
I would compile a list of the top 5-10 Porsche Indy repair specialists and seek their professional advice. They will know what might be your best route to take. A low mileage engine would seem to be the most economical with the LN Engineering update included.
Porsche dealerships will be the most expensive. Search here and on Rennlist for recommended places to call.

Agreed. It is garbage.
I agree also.
The values of the IMS cars are way lower than the 993 and earlier cars. How much value have we lost as Porsche owners. I sold all of my 5 Corvettes for as much or more than I paid for them!

How many miles? Did it have the LN Engineering replacement bearing?
Consider replacing it with a used turbo or GT3 engine for the same price. More fun, better resale down the road.

Make sure you call Porsche and fight with them on this issue. They gave me the same push back, telling me that they are not responsible. I had a 2005 PC2S with around 13K miles and with no warranty and I had the IMS failure. Now, this was three years ago, but Porsche should still be fully responsible for something they did wrong. This was my 3rd Porsche and it had very low miles. I had the car towed to 5 different dealerships because and no one would help me. Finally I found a Porsche dealership in New York that would take the car and guided me in the directions I should take, so I got a lawyer to write Porsche a letter. 2 weeks later Porsche agree to replace the engine if I paid for the service which was about $3k. I agreed Porsche replaced the engine and it has been running great every since. When you have your car checked make sure you haven’t over rev a lot or sign of tracking your car because they will check.
Good Luck!!!

i would ask the dealer and/or the indy shop you take it to, to call PCNA and see if they would contribute goodwill. they might surprise you. most likely will not pay all (or even most) but any little bit would help.
I found this site during my research of the IMS Failure....anyone want to chime in about this....

I haven't thought too much about this issue and whether or not it will happen to my car....what has Porsche done in recent years to address this?

If you don't get anywhere with PCNA. Ask Greg at House Auto in Pasadena. Not sure if they do rebuilds, but he's an honest guy with reasonable rates. He may be able to help you source an engine or at least put it in at a decent price.
I am looking for the letter, but I am having trouble finding it. A lot has happen since the repair. I will ask my lawyer in the morning. He should have a copy somewhere. Also, if you have any chance of having Porsche fix the car the car has to be at a Porsche Dealership. I first brought my car to my Porsche expert, but he could touch the car, so I had to get it towed to 5 different dealership until I found someone who would put up a fight with me against Porsche. Don't forget this was 3 years ago and I had low miles on the car, so the odds were on my side. Also, Porsche Club of America is not going to help you on this. Tomorrow, call Porsche main office directly and file a claim. How many mile do you have on the car? Also, are you the first owner or second? How many Porsches have you owned?
