Extended Warranty (4 Year/48K miles)

Beverly Hills Porsche just quoted me $3,784 for a 4-year/48K miles Fidelity extended warranty. They're emailing me the exact details which I assume may be fairly standard.

The car's a 2008 C4S w/23K miles.

Any advice of as to the competitiveness of this offer would be greatly appreciated. I'm torn as to move forward with it or not.

Fidelity is excellent, but you don't have to buy it from a Porsche dealer. You might check around with other authorized dealers in town for a comparo.

FWIW, that's about 15-20% less than what I'm paying for a Fidelity platinum warranty on a 2005 C2 with 50,000 miles that was out of warranty, so it seems a little high. And though my dealings with BH Porsche have been brief, I did not come away impressed.

Thanks - yeah I'll spot check it w/another broker and revert back for intel. Question though - if after 4 years and/or 48K miles - and nothing happens - you get the $$$ back .... right??? ....

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Are you kidding? My internet smiley knowledge trips me up from time to time.

But, you can cancel anytime and get a prorated refund back, even if you have made a claim.

Extended warranties are definitely negotiable, I was able to decrease the cost considerably by telling the dealer I could get it cheaper from an independent.

I was getting quotes on my 2006 in the same range over here in DC. Very few folks willing to negotiate down on the "Older" cars.

Far too high. I have a 3 year/100,000 mile extension on my 1999 and it cost me $2,600 with zero deductible. Yours should be far less. PM me if you need information. It also depends on your coverage. If it's bumper-to-bumper with zero wear-and-tear then it's only slightly high. If not, way high.

Depends on the mileage on the car. If under 10K miles, you can get the Platinum policy for low $2000s. Once over 10K miles, the policy goes up another 1200+.

Shop the policy. I ended up purchasing my Fidelity 7 yr / 70K Platinum policy ($100 deductible) for considerably less than my daily tall Starbucks bold coffee (no room for milk). And I bought it from a Honda dealer!

From my limited experience the Chrysler Extended Service Contract is by far the best - but they don't cover Porsches. That policy probably paid out tens of thousands on my previous MB. After getting shot down on the Porsche the finance guy gave me some friendly advice on negotiating with someone else. A general rule of thumb - take the MSRP of the warranty, divide by 2, add $400. Don't pay any more than that.

You can only get 2 additional years on top of the normal 4 year warranty, from the original in service date, with a CPO. In the case of the OP he's getting an additonal 4 years and 48 k miles. 2 year CPO costs $ 3000. Forgetting the miles, he's better off with the 3rd party warranty.

If you still recall the place you got it, let me know.
Thanks

Like yourself I live in the Denver area and am interested in where you purchased the extension you mention above. A PM is fine if you feel it is private, but I think others may benefit.

Also, I am new to the area (July '12) and am curious if you know of any local places where exotic cars run or meet? Still have not found much here in Parker

Thanks,
C.H.
