PORSCHES FINISH 1st and 4th FOLLOWING WILD RACE AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK

April 1, 2012 (Ormond Beach, FL) – John Farano and David Empringham salvaged a much needed 4th place finishing position for BGB Motorsports in front of the largest Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series field to ever squeeze around a tight and twisty 2.4 mile Barber Motorsports Park road course. The 2.5 hour race featuring 35 GS class cars and a combined 75 car field took nearly an hour to get underway as driver impatience finally dwindled and threatening Birmingham skies began appearing. Avoiding two enormous mult-car pileups during the first 40 minutes, one of which required evasive lawn driving, John Farano did exactly as promised and delivered an unscratched silver and blue Porsche 997 sponsored by Tower Events to pit road inside the top-10, advancing 15 spots when most cars weren’t going forwards, but backwards to the garages and then to the body shop.

As newly renovated Porsches from Rum Bum Racing and BGB Motorsports ran up front all afternoon, it became a game of strategy and one that the BGB crew met head on, as near flawless pit stops and perfect race strategy locked David Empringham into a position to control his race. Never running outside of the top-10 and then running 3rd overall and 2nd overall, the team was elated to have 4th place honors. The car’s 12th place Daytona finish and now 4th place finish puts them tied for 3rd place in the Team Championship, seating Porsche 3rd in the Manufacturer’s Championship.

As the Porsche brand found its way back to the front of the field for nearly the first time in 3 years, it did so during the sponsored home race for the Porsche Cars North America headquarters located 150 miles away in nearby Atlanta. Porsche teams are the only teams to operate without any support of any type from the factory, as privateer teams showcase the car’s ability against other leading car manufacturers like BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Subaru and Nissan. Even though the phone won’t ring on Monday with any congratulations, teams will be hard at work preparing for round 3 at Homestead-Miami Speedway scheduled for the weekend of April 26-29, 2012.

The 2012 Porsche 250 will be broadcast on SpeedTV this Sunday April 8th at noon, EST.
