I know that my 3 year old is not as tall as the average new car rear window. He would be hard to see even if you were looking backwards. Modern cars are just too big, not to mention the SUVs and minivans.
Adding a backup camera to a vehicle without an existing visual display screen will probably cost $159 to $203 per vehicle. That number shrinks to between $58 and $88 for vehicles that already use display screens.
Seems like a small price to pay. I'm sure that father would be happy to pay that price.
Agreed. That is why AT&T/SBC techs have to cone thier vans/trucks front and back. That had a horrible accident years ago.

Tragic, agreed. But in my mind the issue is with the small child being allowed to roam about the driveway/road without supervision and/or the training to not get near or behind cars. We should not force technology on everyone because of improper parenting. But then, we have airbags designed to help folks who refuse to wear seatbelts, which lead to the problem with airbags hurting people... so in the US bizarro-logic rules, so who knows.

If these do not become mandatory by the government, it looks as if they may become mandatory by market forces.

Well, certainly in the market of Honda buyers. But Honda SUVs have some horrible rearward visibility, though it has gotten a bit better.

Can you post a pic of the camera mounted on your bumper? I'm contemplating putting one in mine as I'm putting in an aftermarket HU. Thanks!

Thanks, fellow Torontonian! That actually doesn't look too bad. I was worried that the camera might be too much of an eyesore. I'm getting mine installed by Pfaff Porsche on Monday along with my new HU. I also noticed you got the dectane taillights. Where did you buy them from?

I got them from Frank at Orange Tuning.

Shipping was fairly quick since it was from overseas and install was basic.

So what aftermarket backup cameras have you all installed on a 911? I see the kenwood pic above, any other recommendations? Does it matter which year car you have for it to be compatible with the display or that needs to be changed too?

You need to change the whole head unit. I HATED the stock one and navigation. Way too dated for me. I put in a ken wood and have Bluetooth, nav, DVD, iPod, camera etc.

Cars awesome but the head unit was not.
