Currently my local dealership is replacing the rear main seal on my 997.1 (under warranty). Is there anything else I should ask them to do while they have the car? The clutch is fairly new, so I don’t think that needs replacing yet.

Have them check your IMS bearing and replace with the LNE kit if applicable.

 

I doubt if an 'authorized' Porsche dealer will replace any part under warranty w/ an aftermarket part. Dealer's get reimbursed from either PCNA or Porsche (Germany) for any warranty work (parts & labor). Now if it's from your pocket they'll do just about anything you ask them to do.

 

plus, his sig says "2006" 997 so his year/IMS prob cant be done (at worthwhile cost, etc).

 

Ok so you can't just replace the Ims bearing on a 2006. By now that info should be seared into our collective consciousness.
