the key to refinishing any leather or vinyl is to strip all of the exhisting finish off, before RE finishing it. It will then last as long as the origional does.
I found acetone does the best job. But it will completely strip anything it touches so dont be sloppy.
After that I use SEM color products. All paint shops sell it and mix it to match your sample.

 

ebay sells a bunch of these leather dyes. they cost about $30-40. most are applied with foam brushes.

 

Simply painted on.
I contacted the company, and they told me to use liquid soap to clean the surface (or to buy their dedicated product) but I tried to degrease it with some housecleaning products (chant eclair).
I guess it will not last forever but for now it was worth the money.
I bought it on eBay as well.

 

Looks good, going to try it the side bolsters on my 99 Cab.
