Liquid leather - Worn gear knob restoration
Liquid leather - Worn gear **** restoration
I bought (with no huge expectations) the following product on ebay (asking them to match my natural brown leather color):
http://www.bespokeleathering.com/lea...re/porschedyes
Before "hard cleaning and degreasing"

After hardcleaning (I used some furniture spray and some liquid soap)

After the restoration (restoration... nothing else than using the sponge that was in the kit)

Comments
Overall I am very pleased of the result, now my only concern is the duration. We will see.
Last but not least... Excuse my awful English

- Wait to have the product completely dried before cursing because the color is different (when I put it on I thought that it was yellowish and lighter compared to my leather but and I was already thinking of the mess I could make by using the darkener dye contained in the kit)
- Check the color with different lights. Still now in natural light, with artificial halogen light, neon lights looks perfect, if I point a led light that I use in the garage, I see a different tone.
- Do not do it in a hurry as I did it and mask with tape parts you do not want to dye (if not you'll have to spend time -as I did- when the product is dried)
- If you find a "sponge" paintbrush it would probably be ideal

The result looks good. Thanks for sharing something quite useful. It this product works on the leather surface around the shift *** this well, do you think they can be applied to some other parts that are wrapped in leather?
I'd guess so.
My only concern would be if you apply it only on a "limited" part. I'd fear you'd notice the color difference.
It's probably ideal for seat sides etc.
For instance I'd not use it on the steering wheel.
When I removed it from the "silver" parts of the ****, it looked like as a "rubber skin", so hopefully it will be elastic.

Looks 100% better then it did. Real test, as you say, is how it will hold up with use. Let us now. My shift **** is suffering from the same wear pattern so my be a candidate for this product if it holds up for you. Added to your rep for your effort in putting the post together and sharing. Thanks.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
I really hope it will last since Porsche is not selling only the **** but the package ****+boot and if I remember right it's around 350 usd.
Please note that I usually drive it no more often than twice per month (
) so it could take time to discover it.
