thanks for everyone's insights. PPI being done tomorrow @ P dealership in Rocklin, CA. I'll be sure to post results. With respect to the price, I've been looking for a car like this for 3-4 months. Searching AutoTrader, Craigslist, EBayMotors and some smaller car sites - Avg. asking price I've seen has been mid 50s for a 06 997S CAB with mileage in the 30 - 40 K range.

Do post your findings...

I think there's a big gap between the the 996 and 997 in terms of pricing... I would like to upgrade my 996 to a 997 but prices have not come down one bit I've found.

I am not sure it is helpful but I bought a good condition 2006 997S convertible from a private seller for 39K two months ago with 61,500 miles on it- silver with black top. It had "newish tires" 7K, needed front brakes after I drove it about 1,500 mile ($250 to put on the fronts - back at 5MM - it was disclosed on purchase). I love the car after having driven it about 3K. I did a PPM at the dealer. It previously had its RMS replaced. Otherwise records were good.

I think it is a good price. Even if it was not - I love the car. My only regret is that I did not buy one sooner

You're quite strong on your conviction and I am interested in how you adjust for miles on a car. The Edmunds Retail TMV for a "clean" '05 C2S with 45,000 miles is $37.5M. I did not add for options, as sometimes you pay for them, sometimes you don't on a used car.

I recommend only buying the car with the 91,600 miles if you get a very significant discount over one with say 45,000 miles. My rationale is when you sell either of the two cars down the road, one will still have 46,600 miles more than the other car and will be a far less appealing car, price wise at that point.

Say you keep whichever '05 997 you buy (either this one with 91,600 miles or the hyperthetical one with 45,000 miles) for 6 years and drive on average 7,000 miles per year. At the end of that time you will be either selling a 911 with either 133,600 miles or one with 87,000 miles. Which one would you expect to sell for more?

PPI came out clean. Few minor items. Only thing worth mentioning was RMS was seeping slightly but not leaking. P Dealer said to simply watch it for now. Eventually will need replaced. DME report was good as follows:

Level 1 - 3957 - 2597 h
Level 2 - 604 - 2112.3 h
Level 3 - 34 - 2048.2 h
Level 4 thru 6 - 0

Engine hours - 2604.8

For my car 2006 997S CAB w/ 91,600 - Edmunds TMV Retail - $45,495; TMV Private Party Sale - $41,818; Trade-in - $38,509.

Given he was at $39,995 - btw. trade-in and PPS price I think the price was fair. Exterior and interior are virtually mint.

Anyway, I pulled the trigger and picked it up Friday afternoon. Been driving it around the Bay area all weekend.

Will post pic tomorrow. Thanks everyone for all your informative insights.
