Help with spacers...please...

Folks,

I just had Brumos Porsche lower my 2007 997S with H&R sports springs. I really like the new height. I am running the factory 19" lobster wheels. This change will require spacers to get the right look. I got on the H&R website and watched their video on how to measure for spacers. My rear wheels are nice and flush with no gap between tire and inner lip of fender well. So, the rears seem to be fine. The reason for my question is when I measured the fronts, I am measuring a 3/4 inch or 19mm gap between the top of the tire and inner fender well. With that gap, the H&R site recommends a 15mm spacer.

Has anyone ever run that much spacer on the front wheels? I have ordered the 15mm spacers from Suncoast, but can change my order before they ship Monday. I have read that most folks are using 7mm up front and 15mm on the rear. This has me second guesing myself. Any advice is most appreciated.

Doug

I've got 7/15 mm spacers on my un-lowered 997S. I think to be on the safe side from a tire rub and look perspective I'd go just 7 mm on the fronts. If you have 295's on the rear 15 mm should fine. On the other had if you have 305's on the rear 15 mm might be too much.

I personnally don't like the the look when tires extend past the fender line (very ghetto).

Are you running the stock offset wheels in the rear (ET67)? I'm running wide body wheels with an offset of ET51 (so effectively a 16mm spacer) and 5mm spacers. My car is not lowered though and running 295 MSS tires. My fronts have 7mm spacers but my front rim is 8.5" since they are off a Turbo.

I believe the normally used 5 to 7 mm spacers on the front is mostly driven by maintaining geometry and keeping the tires from rubbing when turning. Extra width at the rear is accomidated by the suspension tending to "tuck in" the tops of the wheels when compressed.
The front geometry is different: little "tuck in" when compressed, and when you have the wheels turned (full lock) in a corner the outside edge of the tire already comes very close to the inner fender. If you move the wheel and tire out by 15 mm the tire may rub against the inner plastic fender well. (Don't know if I am describing this clearly).

Strictly measuring the fronts with the wheels pointed straight may not tell you the whole picture.

Your results may vary, but I believe there is a reason 7mm front and 15mm rear spacers are the most popular sizes when using stock wheels.

Hope this helps.

John
