997.1C2S vs. 997.2C2... are they really that close in performance?
I searched this website (maybe not well enough) but I'm having trouble finding a nice write-up or direct comparison between a 997.1 C2S and a 997.2 C2. While I know straight line speed is not what a Porsche is all about, it appears from my random Google search (there are surprisingly few articles out there about the 997.1 C2, they always test the S or the 4) that the 2009 C2 is almost a full second quicker in both 0-60 and quartermile than the 2008 C2, which puts it almost dead even with a 2008 C2S. Is the difference really that big?
In fact, the article puts the 997.1 C2 at over 5 seconds 0-60 and mid 13s in the quartermile, which seems almost sluggish for such a premium sports car. These cars shine on a track. Are those numbers correct? For those of you that have the 997.1 C2 does the car feel underpowered to you in any way?

I went through the exact same comparison when I was shopping for my 911. I was either going to get a 997.1 C2S or a 997.2 C2. I ended up getting the 997.2 C4 and am perfectly happy with it. The bigger difference is more the car upgrades: bigger brakes, better suspension that come with the S. If you're going to track it at all, I would pick the S.
As I've admitted before, I also went with the 997.2 because I really wanted the upgraded creature comforts that came with the PCM 3.0. Better Nav, touchscreen interface, bluetooth, ipod connectivity.
Just like all the options you can get with these cars, it always comes down to what YOU really want.
Have fun with your search!

+1 for the 997.2
I don't think there is a debate on whether the C2S is better than the base C2, but for those of us that don't plan to track the car, I'm not sure the extra power is realized in a daily driving application, is it? That said, the base 997.1 seems slightly underpowered. Frankly, with the power numbers and the weight of the car, I'd expect a little better than a 5.1 0-60 or a 13.5 quartermile.
I guess I was just a little surprised to find out just how much more performance the DFI provides.
