General Price for iPod connection?

Dealership quoted me about $985 to install an after market connection for my iPod. he mentioned that would be the cost with parts and labor and I would not have access to the shuffle feature...but everything else would function as normal and display in my PCM. Is this pretty typical?

I just installed a Denison 500 from bumper plugs. 400 and some change and about a hour and a half of my time to install. Pretty easy to do really and a lot less than the grand you were quoted. I mounted my unit in the frunk with the navigation so I never touch my iPod. I only touch it to put new songs on it.

So your ipod is in your trunk? If so, does that mean you control it through your PCM? I'm confused. I'm not that handy with installing radio's or wiring, etc...it comes with a step by step guide?

I also have the Dension from bumper plugs. The Dension unit mounts in the trunk near the cd changer. You can run a wire into the cabin to connect your iPod. I chose to keep a dedicated iPod the trunk. you can choose to control the iPod directly or you can control it through the PCM. It's a little clunky but you get used to it. You will get shuffle, my favorite method. I actually used my old iPhone 3GS and can sync via wifi from the house to update my podcasts.

Yes my iPod classic is in the trunk. I control it completely through the PCM. Works nicely.

2 questions for you
1) what wire to connect to the ipod itself and where did you get it?
2) how is the ipod charging?

Thanks,

Gre

I bought this cheap cable ($33) from suncoast, works perfect for my 2009 Carrera 4s. iPod/iPhone stays in the center console. Full control over PCM and it keeps it charged.

So it sounds like if you have your iPod mounted in the trunk you will have to take it out every now and then to charge it. Correct?

If you have an iPhone as well and choose to get the bluetooth option with the Dension unit, will you have to unplug your iPod that is in the trunk? Will the two conflict?

no it charges in the frunk so no worries there. Yes i have to take it out occasionally to update. if i had a ipod touch with wifi i could leave the wifi on and it would update via icloud automatically therefore no need to ever take it out. hmmm i don't know the answer to ipod and iphone question but my guess is no they won't conflict because the phone would mute the music anyway.
