Spacer Question -- Is the Set Screw Needed?

I recently purchase an '09 4S and want to install my old set of Porsche OEM spacers. The 2 set screws seem to be rusted into place. I tried PB Blaster and they are not moving.

Question: Are these set screws necessary for installing the spacers? It seems that the 5 lugs secure the spacer in place.

I wouldn't worry about the screw. It only holds it in place when the wheel is off.

Not really needed but they are convenient. If the screws are rusted try an impact driver.

Worse case you could drill the head off the screw...but that should be done as a last resort.

I ended up buying a screw extraction kit. It got the screw out, but it is was expensive ($28 for a 4 piece set) and snapped in half.
