i actually own both... a 2004 Maserati Spyder and a 2009 997. First, there is a lot of misinformation listed here. Yeah the Maser is not cheap to maintain but neither is the P-car. both of mine have the F-1 type transmission. the Maser is much smoother than the Porsche but the Porsche is considerably better when working your way through traffic. The Maser does have some items that can eat your wallet but most of those items (heater box, clutch) have been greatly improved with the 08 and newer models. the Maser is more of a GT car... the P-car is a true sports car. the reliability of the two so far has been the same - neither car has left me stranded yet. The Maser is definitely a head-turner but the P-car turns a few heads also. if you are looking for a daily driver, i recommend the P-car....the Maser is WONDERFUL on the open road but not so much in traffic. if i could only own one, i would probably keep the Maserati. i have a great local indy who takes very good care of my car at reasonable prices... and i like hanging out at the Ferrari dealer! BUT... the P-car is very sweet!

These two cars aren't in the same category. If we want reliability, low cost of ownership, let's all head to the Toyota a dealership. If the GT... yes, the Maserati is a GT car is most appealing, and you like the appeal it exudes, go for it (just be ready for even more depreciation). Check out some of the lease residuals on a Maserati if you want to be shocked. The Porsche is a known quantity... great cars, good value... but fair enough... a bit common. If you're up for the maintenance/cost, the Maserati will remove panties faster (on this my wife and I agree).

Pretty car but then there is Aston Marton. Maser rear looks let it down imo. Some kind of generic Ford/Jag thing going on. Bottom line: If you love to drive, go w the Porsche. Really that simple.

I can go several days between seeing a P-Car on the road. 911's are special around here. (~1.2 million folks in my town)

Even so, that is a hot looking car!
