997 or maserati
997 or maserati
fellas as yall know im looking for my 997 but the other day while driving, i saw an maserati on the road it was a coupe not really sure which one but it was sexy, had the jag xk front looking grill and headlights and had those slick lines and was a drop top. and sounded gorgeous. now Ive been looking for that 997 for a few months and will be ready to buy in the winter time as prices generally go down. but anyways i went on cars.com and looked up the 06 maserati coupe gt and cas something they are less then the Porsche i cant believe the prices i was seeing as the 997s are round 39-45 for decent mileage, non S, and the maseratis are like 30-38. thats ridiculous. anybody have ever owned this car? i dont want a Porsche biased opinion just the truth.
About 2 years ago I had the same choices. What kept me away from a Maser is the enormous maintenance cost. I would suggest you compare that to the 997. If you can accept the costs, then the Maser would be an awesome choice. I really like the curves to the Maser just not the Ferrari-like maintenance costs as it does have a Farrari built engine. Good luck.
well i aint no rich dood i drive a jag xf and a nissan 350 which im trading in and putting a 20 thousand downpayment on the car im going to buy which is most likely a Porsche. but if i get the Maserati cant you get a warranty that will cover everything? i mean common 35 grand for an 06 convertible coupe is a dream right? warrenty is your best friend that will cover everything. i was also reading that any maserati after 2002 is the best choice as they are reliable and it will probably be my daily driver or switch off between the jag. never had no problems with my xf put 40 k on it since i bought it almost new. i will buy either the 911 or maserati if i do decide with both of em going to have about 40-50k in mileage as if a car sits it breaks down so ill get one with a good amount of mileage so its running good.
I went through a similar decision process before buying my 07 C4S. The Maseratis are gorgeous and fabulous to drive. The 06 convertible you saw is a Spyder or Gran Sport Syder: Ferrari V8 engine, six speed paddle shift, etc.
I researched the same car (as well as the Quattroporte) and came up with three main issues that ended the discussion:
1. Service costs as others have pointed out are high. In my case, the dealer was quoting $1700 every 12 months. And it was every 12 months, not 10k miles.
2. Insurance was about $2k a year for me compared to about $600 for my 911.
3. Replacement clutch. Most of the Spyders that age come with the semi-automatic flappy paddle shift. The car is notoriously heavy on the clutch - plan on a replacement every 12 - 15k miles (and that was what the dealer quoted). Not covered by warranty - it is a wear item. If you can find a six speed manual (rare) you will have about 20k between clutch replacements....
Finally, the Gran Turismo is the later coupe model (08 onwards) and is just plain stunning - and comes with a ZF conventional 6-speed auto. So no replacement clutches but still heavy on maintenance.
So I decided 97 C4S with lower insurance, maintenance, higher mileage and still an absolute blast to drive. The Maerati is a 'one day...' car for me....

From what the dealer has told me, no - the clutch is not a warranty item. Basically, it appears that the clutch disc is too small for the size of car plus the electronics allow a degree of slip on each change - remember this was one of the early auto clutch designs.
So it is a design and wear issue, not a fault per se.
Still a great car though....

the 911 is a true sports car, and handles and drives like one. from my understanding the Maserati is a sporty coupe but luxurious, and stunning but not as fun to drive as the 911. the 911 is all about the owner, the Maserati is all about the electronics, still would be a bad *** car though. i agree im going to say the maintenance issue is to much for me, i cant afford to pay 1500 or more bucks every 10000 miles or around that area. maybe one day i will own one.
