It's all relative. Coming out of my 997 to my beater Honda civic I nail the floor board with a thump every shift until I get used to how light the civic's clutch is.

My wife and I transitioned from an '09 Boxster S to our current 997.1 4S. One of the first things the wifey noticed on the test drive was that the clutch was heavier than what she was used to in the 987. I don't find it so heavy as to be perturbing or tiring, but the 987 was an easier car to drive in stop and go.

It seems like the clutch can vary quite a bit from car to car. The clutch on my '08 C2 is very heavy. But, I've driven other 997.1's, 997.2's, CS's and turbos and they were all significantly lighter. I've never been able to figure out why and I've been assured by the dealer that there's nothing wrong with the clutch. It's got about 30k miles and no problems.

I've driven over 50 types of manual cars on track. my 06 997 has by far the heaviest clutch.

Porsche can learn a thing or tow about clutch and shifter from Honda.

Heavier than my Mercedes, but you get used to it quickly. Since I don't drive it everyday it's not an issue for me.

+1. I don't think I've driven 50, but it's up there. Some obscure trucks, Chery, Citroens, Geely, Fiats and Seats in there to round out that number from manufacturers that are still trying to make better cars... But none of them are as heavy as the 997. Only the UPS truck came close.

I am new to Porsche 911 world. are twin disc clutch available ?
they would be a lot lower pedal effort for the same torque than a single disk clutch.

heavy ?

perhaps u guys mean a stiff clutch ?

most cars have too much hydraulic assist making them feel 'soft'

my clutch is nice & firm. (LA traffic included)

Its the way a proper sports car is supposed to feel IMO..

u should try the GT3 clutch for a real workout

I d call my 09S a LIGHT clutch.... it s subjective. I d consider heavy to be , maybe a late 60 s or 70 s American muscle car.

soft clutch makes for easy modulation. "stiff" is not better, many aftermarket ones are stiff because they don't know how to build one that can handle high torque and light at the same time. I owned an early Boxster in the past, it is probably 1/2 of the clutch effort.

just surprised 997.1 is this heavy, as 997.1 don't make gadzillion hp either.

may be it isn't the clutch, just simply pedal spring ? or if someone make a twin disc clutch, that will fix it.

I'm not particularly fond of how the clutch and shifter feel on most Japanese cars. A friend has just bought a Nissan 370Z, and I find the clutch and shifter feel 'vague' to me.

I'd much rather have the 997 clutch IMHO.

not sure why u wanna modulate ur clutch..

its either engaged or disengaged.

Modulating the clutch will only add to faster wear & tear.

BTW, boxter's clutch is made for a girl's leg.. ............ j/k (sort of..)
