How good is Porsche CPO?
My wife got a 2008 Carrera for my b-day from a Porsche dealer. Car is Porsche certified. Great wife. Car was delivered in May. Drove it few times on long distance and put about 500 miles on it (car now has about 30000 miles). Initially, it felt clutch was engaging way too high. I didn't think much of it and thought it must be the "911" thing. But recently cat started chattering terribly. Shaking at every gear. Took her back to the dealer. They are saying the clutch is gone and since it is a wear item, I have to pay for the entire thing (about $2,300.00). They initially blamed me on the clutch saying I did not know how to drive it but all my other cars are 6 speed as well. So that did not stick. Since then they agreed to pay for the labor but parts are still on me.
Now, what kind of protection the buyer gets from Porsche Certification? Shouldn't they know the clutch was in bad shape? Why should I pay for a new clutch in a car I've driven merely 500 miles?
Any ideas? I am going to question the Porsche Certification and what type of process the car goes through for this certification.
Thanks

on my CPO paperwork (inspection), it just says clutch engages OK and shifts OK, or something to that effect. I am supprised they dont have a way to determine a clutch life left estimate. I think in your case with 500 miles you should put up a strong suggestion that they assist you in this issue. I think the issue is that it is possible for someone to destroy a clutch in 500 miles, I don t believe you did but you need to convince your dealer. You should have a large folder with all the CPO stuff in it. Read thru that first so you know what you are talking about when you go back.
Tough one, its either covered or it isn't. Regardless the dealer could do the right thing in good faith and repair the car for free. If they don't, get what you can out of them and tell them you will never be back.
I totally agree, they don't need to pay anything, like tires, clutch is a wear and tear item.
give you confidence in the product they are selling. They should have some type of access area near the clutch to be able to see the thickness left without removing everything, No?
Take the offer but check parts pricing with another dealer like suncoast to make sure they are not killing you on parts.

Agree with above. I have bought my last 2 P cars CPO and they won't cover wear parts. Their offer is good considering that labor maybe more than half the cost of the repair. Sorry that you have issues just 500 miles in, I would be pissed and would probably want more than just labor as well.
Good Luck

Also, if you really want to push it, maybe you can talk the dealer into charging you dealer cost for the parts or at least matching parts prices that you can find on-line. Good luck!
buying a CPO car I d be pissed because one would assume the clutch would not be at the end of it s life with so low miles,( Assuming you didn t burn the clutch). I guess labor free is better than nothing???? If that s the deal I would let them know you would not be recommending or buying from them again.
The dealer is standing behind the car by giving you free labor, which is about half the cost. Try contacting Porsche, be very, very nice, advise them how much you love your car, have always been a loyal service customer to the manufacturer of the cars you have owned and intend to be with your Porsche and they may pick up some of your parts cost.
Also, to answer your question, I replaced the clutch on my 996 at 68,000 miles and then only because they were replacing the RMS and it was same labor, just had to buy parts and I figured it was time.

Question: Did you have a PPI accomplished on the car by an independent technician before you bought it? Regardless of PO or not, the $200 or so to have one done may uncover issues which the CPO inspection may not and is good peace of mind.
