Another GTS gets the Shark Bite
Another GTS gets the Shark Bite
This well-optioned 997.2 Carrera GTS came in for couple of small but we think vital upgrades to make the 911 have a bit more edge. First on the list was our Shark Werks exhaust in combination with the PSE system and accompanying that was the factory sport shifter.
In she comes, with centerlock wheels and as a 6speed...

On the lift she goes and ready to have the center exhaust removed:

Off it comes (as well as approx 10 pounds extra weight):

On goes the SharkWerks exhaust:

Out with the floppy stock shifer unit:

In goes the factory short throw shifter kit:

Matching silver interior- very nice:

Ready to go home:

Here's some sound clips on GTS':

Cheers very much mate!
Hope you like it
The factory SSK is another really good thing to do on these. Subtle but good.
Thanks Alan!

With that said after looking at the website and the cutout, I can see where the OEM exhaust is restricted and the SW is more open. Opening the exhaust will affect the backpressure and mapping of the engine - How is this compensated for? A retune necessary?

Sorry about that! We use the Tubi for the 997.1s....

The nice thing is if you look at the design of the factory center exhaust we found it to be rather restrictive indeed:
Vs our straight through design:

You can see the gains we got on my R&D car back in the day

It's certainly an easy way to make a few ponies and the flow better. We did it primarily to get more sound but you can see why Ze Germans did it the way they did. It's quieter and needs to be in order to pass the strict sound laws in Europe. We're not quite so strict to

Same here - all the R&D that goes into these cars, I am skeptical that an aftermarket exhaust would be better - maybe I don't know.

The trick it is get it using the more aggressive one
I don't think its a substitute for PSE. It works with PSE or your standard exhaust system.
Thanks! And you bet they are

Hey not at all... I would say it's different to the PSE. We actually made ours to work _with_ the PSE as well. For those without the PSE it's a much cheaper solution to get a bit more sound out of the car. It's much easier to install as well. For those with the PSE I think it just gives it more "edge" if you will.. You can still use the button to open/close the valves so you can go from relatively mild to pretty loud

There is a small change in back pressure indeed. And yes we were able to retune it some and mostly to make it run better on 91 octane but you don't "need" to retune it. There's a lot of different ignition ranges and maps the ECU can choose to use

I've often said that the SW Bypass was the best mod I've made on my GTS. Not so much for any power gains, but for the aggressive sound it allows, particularly with the PSE set ON. With stock PSE rear center exhaust, there is a noticeable change in note when you open the valves (Turn it ON), but with the SW that noticeable change goes from an aggressive note to one with some 'bite'. Higher pitch, a few crackles...it really wakes up the PSE sound to something much closer to a GT3.
Don't buy it for any power gains, but rather for the best sound you can get out out of the stock setup (PSE or not), and for a really good price.
