How to remove the trim under the instrument dial on 997.2

Does anyone know of a DIY guide or can give a description on how to remove the lower trim underneath the instrument dials on a 997.2 (PDK)?

Here is a link to a canon fiber replacement of this piece from MaCarbon (showing a 997.1, maybe they are the same). MaCarbon usually has really good instructions, but not on this item.

http://www.macarbon.com/index.php?pa...mart&Itemid=95

I wish to remove this piece, and paint it myself. Thanks a lot.

Michael

I can't find my photos of doing this, but as I recall, you lower the steering column as much as possible, then pull that piece forward and tilt upwards to expose retaining screws. Good luck.

Michael,

As previously mentioned, lower the steering column fully.
Remove the screws that hold the cowls together that are around the column switches.
Carefully lift the top section and unclip the microphone if it is fitted, then unclip the leatherette part from the top cowl. That gets the cowl out of the way.
Next, using a PLASTIC trim tool, unclip the top by levering under it from the side. It is a bit stubborn, but it will unclip. then unclip the lower clips on each side and and remove it.
It is far easier with the steering wheel removed.

That particular piece of trim can be VERY difficult to remove sometimes, often times destroying it as you pull it out. Make sure you put painter's tape on the leather trim surrounding the piece as not to gouge into the side pieces as you pull it out.
