40k does not get spark plugs according to the manual. Only the 997 turbo is 40k spark plugs. regular 997 gets plugs at 60k. It's mainly oil, air filter, cabin filter and inspection it seems.

$1,659.89 yesterday.
Labor $784
Parts $875.89
- Washer Fluid
- Oil Filter
- Air Filter
- Oil (Mobil-1 0W40 @ 9 Quarts)
- Spark Plugs (Bosh)
- Cabin Air Filter
- Ignition Coils
- Fuel System Cleaning
- Engine Oil Additive

Ignition Coils are not a requirement of the 4-Year/40K Major Maintenance (AFAIK), but mine were cracked. That was $460 of the $875 Parts Bill. So the Major Maintenance would have been about $1,200 otherwise (no labor cost on the coils since they had to replace the plugs anyway).

The Brake Flush was a separate item on my my bill, at $140 (parts & labor), so that would have been roughly $1,340 for the same work you had done. I'm glad to see it is pretty consistent.

BTW, this was an Indy, not a Dealer.

I was going to say that I thought you might get a better deal at an Indy, but then I remember I jumped on the dealers website and found a 10% off coupon( if they're gonna offer it I'm gonna use it).....so mine probably would have been closer to 1600....

Can someone explain 'cracked coils'? I don't mean to sound naive, but I would think that for those who replaced them, those coils had been cracked for a while and the car just kept running until the visual inspection.

I am 14K miles away from replacing the plugs (and coils); I'll be doing the maintenance myself, so I am just preparing for the 60K.

coils = $40.00/each - not bad.

Thanks.

services are always expensive through the dealer, but rest assured that a "trained eye" is well worth the price.

The way I look at it is that anything that's "cracked" is a major failure waiting to happen and usually at the worst possible time. I don't think a quick visual inspection would really tell the whole story until you physically take them off and kind of bend the boots. It may run "ok" as is, but I can tell you that after changing the plugs, coils and air filter, it feels like a brand new car again. Well, that's my $0.02, I'm still new to the P world!

100% agree. And I always replace anything that is cracked, weathered, etc. I am just waiting for someone to actually have had car issues, took it to the dealer, and the diagnosis was 'cracked coils'.

Once I get to replacing my plugs, I'll check for cracked coils. If I do have one, I'll open it up and see if 'cracking' of the boots actually affect/degrade the functionality of the unit. I would be surprised if the electronics aren't protected by another layer of material, and the cracking is just the plastic/rubber housing.

"curiosity killed the cat!!!"
