Question Would you choose a 997 cab or M6 Vert for DD

I have been in BMw's most of my life. I'm seriously contemplating going for either a 997.2 or 911 CAB.

My question is that I'm semi-retired, athletic, Ride mountian Bikes, and want a sport Cruiser. I'm hoping that either the 997 or 911 with the 19" wheels, as well as the button on comfort will give me the sporty yet compliant ride im seeking, but how do i tell?

I have test drove a 911 C2 Cab here in Northern Cal, but It was only about a 20 minute ride. I will go back for another, but is there anything you can tell me from the BMW's to the Porsche in 19's?

I did actually do this very thing. I thought the M6 felt large and lumbering. Also, even with all the HP, it didn't feel fast to me. I don't think if you drive both there is any comparison, but I guess it depends on what you like. The M6 is more like an AMG MB than a true sports car. By the way, I owned 3 BMWs prior to my Carrera (my last was an M3 convertible) and although great cars, it's a totally different experience.

If you care about gas mileage even a little bit, stay away from M6.

Oh and the one other important thing (to me) about the M6 was that you BMW didn't even offer and extended maintenance program on that engine. So, I think that tells you something about the cost of stuff and reliability of that engine.

I absolutely love both cars. As michaeldantep said before, the 911 is a completely different and far superior driving experience. Having said that, I think the M6 makes for a better daily driver because of the ride. It's much softer and for me, if I had to drive to work everyday I much rather drive the M6 back and forth into manhattan instead of the 911. The stiffer/more responsive ride is also the reason I would take a 911 over the M6. So much more fun as a weekend car. Just my 2 cents...

You're asking this question in a Porsche Forum, I think we're pretty biased here. 911 all day, the M6 is a fricken boat!

Thumbs up I agree...

Thanks for the kind, and informative responses. i am really loving the 911 991 C4 but, I am hoping the the ride on the 19's would be a bit softer than on the 20"s. I'm sure some here wouldn't mind using their 911 for a DD.

I guess I will have to get more seat time to make a decision. I have gone back and forth with other Auto's and I spent more trading than If I just bought a second car cash...

If i get the PASM, will the comfort setting be more comfortable than the Regular setting, meaning Not the SPort buttons that come on the base model?

How do you feel about the comfort setting for daily driving?

And Lastly, does anyone here own a 911 with the 19's and can comment on them?

thx

It is pix like the ones above that confirm my Day Dreams. I see my wife and I traveling the open roads overlooking the ocean from the Bay area to Pismo-Beach; Traveling to our get-away on the, "Inn on Summer Hill;" Cruising thru shaded giant redwoods, and to places never seen...

all this happens in my mind, and it all happens in a Guards Red 911 C4 CAb similar to yours...

So, what do I think...? I think you have an awesome color combo, and people, upon viewing your car at a stop light, driving other German Brands, should open their car doors, exit their vehicles , and bow slightly to a Legendary Sports Car.

Sam, "Wake up it's time for dinner..." Got to run pzzzzz

Whatever you decide, do not even consider owning the v10 monster without an extended warranty. It is a VERY expensive vehicle to maintain WHEN (not if) something goes wrong - exotic car size bills.

I ve owned both. 2007 M6 coupe fully loaded and modded and 2009 C4S cab fully loaded and modded. Both were CPO cars with comparable mileage. Problem wise, I have had similar little issues with both cars. nothing major with either. I DD both cars and put about 10K miles/yr per car. The M6 has a much better cabin, many more cool options and hauls *** like a bat when modded. The gas wasnt that bad in the right tranny mode and in V8 mode rather than V10. The 997.2 4S has more character and much more fun to drive, gets more looks too BUT people did complement the M6 a lot once they got in it. the 997 not so much. Both are great cars and both are fun. If I had to choose, I would say the M6 was a better Daily driver.

I used to own 2009 M5, yeah it's was more powerful and it's better on the eye then Porsche C4S, but it's not as fun as 911. I used dream about Maserati, but quickly forgot about once I drove 911. Now I want to own a brand new turbo s. You will not regret it. Good luck.

See U,

Thank you for your generous comments about my car; I love the color combo as well....she's gorgeous!! My absolute favorite 911 ever!!

I've used 911s as daily drivers in the Northeast since 1999 and they are wonderful....full of fun and smiles. Just what I want in my life....things and people I love that make me smile and enrich all of my days.......I'm a very lucky, lucky man!!

All the Best,

Tom

Porsche all the way! Had BMW's, Audi's, MB's, still prefer my Porsche over them all. Even converted my wife, she drives the Cayenne S, and she grew up in a BMW dealership family.

I am not sure about the 997.2s but i do not believe that the 997.1s' PASM comes with a COMFORT button.
It's either regular or stiffer. - That's how it is in my car at least.
