Angeles Crest V1 and the CHP

Enjoyed a mildly spirited run on Angeles crest yesterday. Went about 1/2 way and turned around back. As those who drive this know its sort of like driving on the moon with all the burned out trees and bushes after the station fire until you get up past the bbq joint.

Anyway, I know the cops are all over this road, especially weekends due to # of fatalities, mostly motorcycles. So I was not hot rodding it, just enjoying the amazing day.

Heading down the hill, up a light hill at crest, come around bend, V1 goes NUTS on KA band, they're using instant on, I slam the brakes (instinct!) and due to the burned out shrubbery, there is a motorcycle cop with a clear view, not kidding, about 1/2 mile away, uphill, across a ravine, shooing from the other end of a U corner, (think I'm in front of U, he's on other side of U, shooting across the gap, which is a valley).

This area is 55 and he got me at 59. I doubt I was going any faster than that, like I said, I wasn't driving hard at all. He stopped me (yeah, for +4!), took paperwork, asked why I was in such a hurry, simply responded I was enjoying the curves and didn't realize I was over 55, wondered why I didn't have the plate, told him I didn't have it, got 2nd hand (true). Then he proceeded to ask if I saw him because he initially got me at 59 then my speed dropped fast. I told him I had a radar detector and his response was "Damn it works well".

While I'm sitting there a few other sports cars go by and he keeps turning to them waving to slow down.

The road was pretty empty, otherwise I'm sure I would have gotten a KA read off another car, but he was using the trigger, not leaving it on like most CHP do. BTW, it was a motorcycle cop.

He then let me go with a warning for the speed + my missing plate.

Cool cop, and I appreciate the leniency, but watch it on AC!

+1 on the V1! Glad he wasn't such a stickler that he'd write you up for 59. Sure it must still have felt horrible when he pulled you over. I wasn't so lucky a couple months ago - Took off from a stoplight in a 35 zone (I thought it was 40 - it indeed changes to that in 2 blocks) and hit 47, V1 going off like nuts (but stupid me totally paying attention to something else) and I drive right by the motorcycle cop before he takes off and pulls me over. No leniency for me - ahhh well. My wife later laments how silly I am for getting a V1 and then ignoring it.

I turned the volume up higher.
