Crickets in my car

There is a high pitch chirping sound kind of like crickets coming from my car when the road is rough. Anyone have a clue about what this could be? It is driving me crazy. If I took it to the dealer do you think they could find it?

could it be the glass on your rear quarter panels ? i seem to have read somewhere that after awhile, the rubber gasket / insulation shrinks over time and it contacts a support. mine also makes the type of sound you described when it hits a rough / bumpy patch on the road.
If this is the case, a complete change of the rear window rubber gaskets might be on the cards.

Happened to me twice, two different reasons,

1- As keny had mentioned, the rear window glass, dealership fixed it for free by adjusting (not sure if they replaced the gaskets).

2- My kid dropped one of his shirt buttons inside the seat built latch box as he was undoing his seat belt. drove me crazy till I looked and found it!

Thanks for the tip I will check into it. How did you determine it was coming from the rear window. Some times when I engage the clutch in first gear and the body torques I hear that high pitch squeak

Are you sure it's coming from within the cabin. I had a chirping sound and it was the exhaust pipes rubbing on one side. However, I do have a modified exhaust, but it's worth checking if you cant seem to figure out where it's coming from.

Between the cat pipe and and outlet pipe. Could also be clamp that is turned and allowing the bolts to touch one of the exhaust pipes. Mine did it at idle also so it was easy to just get under there and locate when the car was running.

At idle and revving in neutral there are no squeaks or chirps

I had that sound and my very capable Porsche mechanic @ Fremont Porsche adjusted and lubed the door latch. Noise gone!

My rear window gasket does this on my truck. 2 or 3 times a year I pull it back a bit and let some oil run down in it. It shuts the squeak down for several months. Sure beats putting a new window in.

Look for Buddy Holly. He used to hang out w/ the crickets. Sorry I just couldn't help myself.

Hope you find the source of the annoying sound.

I will, what do I check for? Cover being loose? Belt movement causing noise?
