Plenum quite a bit different than the IPD Plenum.

I installed the new IPD 997 Comp plenum with an GT3/X51 throttle body. It fit together perfectly. No machining necessary.

And, according to IPD, the rough finish performs better than the smooth finish.

That said, if Nello had his plenum available six months ago when I got the headers, cats, mufflers from him, I would have bought it.

Great to hear Joe! Please let us know how different it feels. As you know I finished the IPD Comp + X51 TB install (with X51 airbox) a couple weeks ago and I feel like I have a new car. The choice between IPD and Maxspeed are up to the purchasers, the internal air flow designs are quite different though. Either way, this makes everything plug n play for X51 airbox owners, which was the real draw for me.

Are the X51 and GT3 throttle bodies the same? 84mm?

Yes, the X51 and GT3 throttle bodies are the same. The part # is 997 605 116 01. It is almost always referred to as the "82mm throttle body", but MaxSpeed says that it is actually 84mm. It's probably a matter of how one positions their digital caliper. Whatever they measure, it is the exact same part.

Finished up the install... Pretty easy if you know how to unscrew and use a screwdriver! LOL!
Everything went smooth. The only challenging issue was the rubber boots since they are stiff, but checking Cattman DIY on the plenum installation gave me some tips.

The difference between the original TB and the X51 TB is like a B cup and a DD cup!!!!!
Everything aligned and matched with no trouble. Take your time making sure the clamps are placed correctly and tight, so you won't have an air leak.

The OEM plenum is a ****ing joke. A piece of plastic that looks like garbage.

I did the battery disconnect before installing the new TB and then, after the install, reconnect the battery and place the key on the "ON" position and waited 30 seconds. This is not mandatory but it will avoid the rough idle you will get for few seconds while the ECU adapts...

Idle is rock solid and steady and the car revs faster. There is noticeable sound now that I didn't hear with my regular plenum, 74mm TB... is a more deeper sound and like a woooooooshhht when accelerating from idle. I really like it.

Driving hard, past 4000 RPMs is where the car now wants to be... it gets there faster and start screaming. I can tell a different behavior.

Does it makes 27 HP? Nello from Maxspeed Motorsports is a smart guy and doesn't advertised any HP gain claims. He is bringing a solution to those who want to install a bigger TB on their cars. Again, mine is a 997.1 Carrera... "Non S" and I couldn't be happier.

Install took all of 45 minutes.

here are some pics:

and also the must have gas cap from MaxSpeed Motorsports. I used to have the Porsche Branded one and threw it away. This is one big chunk of aluminum! I love it!

So now you have more air going in....need a ECU tune to get more power/proper air fuel ratio (stock edu will only adjust so far) and a free flowing exhaust to vent it all out. Might make 10-15 hp and a few more in tq. I t will sound better and the human brain thinks loud is fast.
Without going in and changing the cam and valves as those will only flow only so much air/fuel you are limited with bolt on parts.

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but wondering about the applicability of the plenum for the GTS. Given it has the X51 upgrades, does it already gave the X51 TB? What about plenum upgrades? Wondering if there is any more fun to be had...

Nice Post Joel

Hello guys,

Joel nice post I'm glad to see that all went fine with your install, As you mentioned above we built this part as a plug n play solution for x51 Air Box owners, on my C4S my butt dyno told me that there was a nice improvement over the smaller TB and plastic plenum,I know sometimes with better sound we tend to think that the car makes more power but no wasn't in my head or not in the sound but really felt a nice improvement especially on acceleration. I'm not full time in the Plenum business but we looked at the factory T-pipe and technically improved airflow (velocity) results in better performance especially with the bigger TB and air box combined but (there's always a but) an ecu flash would be the icing on the cake to really take advantage of those new mods.

Thank you Joel for the nice post, I appreciate the time a true Porsche Enthusiast takes to post is experience good or bad to at least guide other members.

Very nice. I might pick one of those plenums for my C4S soon.
