Q
Don't know why your dealer is talking about Bosch - the OEM battery is Moll.

Interesting. I needed a new battery last year and my dealer told me not to buy the factory battery as they have more problems than their other battery. The battery installed cost me $145.00.

If done by a Porsche dealer.

Ripped off? No.

Paid a bit much? Yes.

You will always pay more at a dealer, but you are also paying for a higher overhead to maintain trained staff, proper tools and tech pubs, information about your car, and a dealer stamp. For simple oil changes and battery swaps, you can do it yourself or use an indy. For DV's problem, he was safer going to a Porsche certified shop., as there was a big question about what the problem was.In my worthless opinion, any decent shop will test the charging system before and after replacing a battery to ensure any problems are noted and then resolved after replacement. This takes a bit more labor, but it's peace of mind.

Just my POV.

Drop by most Interstate stores and they can a free battery test (testers should look similar to this design)... based upon the original CCA ( cold cranking amps ) they can give you a print out of the remaining life ..typically anything over 4 years is 'ready to let you down' ...and in HOT or COLD weather is when the battery & system is taxed the most.

Not exactly a car battery data sheet - try this - a real handy battery info sheet.

I paid 185 for the original battery. I bought it from the dealer on my way home from work, (called them in the morning and they put the acid in and charged it during the day). And then installed it myself, 15 minutes and had to get into the "trunk". My son thought it was

Walmart has worked fine

I replaced my original battery in an '06 C4 over a year ago with a ~ $125 Walmart battery after reading many, many posts here. It was easy to install and has worked perfectly. It's got a long warranty - 4 years I think and there's a million Walmarts if I need a replacement. I'm no fan of Walmart but it's an invisible component; buried underneath a plastic shroud, covered by a Frunk, and is made by a 3rd party that makes most other American batteries. And it works great! Save your money!
