997.2... Vibration after Sharkwerks 3rd Muffler bypass???

So shortly after I bought my 997.2, I purchased the Sharkwerks muffler bypass and put it on, lately I've noticed more vibration in the car at idle, the tach is steady, but there is definitely more vibration than when I originally bought it. Water bottle in the cup holder shakes, slight blur on the side views from the vibration.

The dealer blames it on the muffler bypass... Anyone else have any input on exhaust mods causing vibration throughout the car?

I had a 997.1 w/ fabspeed exhaust and noticed no unusual vibration at idle... I'm not sure how they're putting this off on the 3rd muffler being swapped for the sharkwerks pipes.

My Cargraphic primary muffler is hard mounted and the tubes are now direct in contact with the mounting surface. I have a little more vibration upon startup, but after the revs drop to idle it's very little. My tubes are also spring mounted to each other in sections to allow for heat expansion and with that you get a little extra metallic sound only at idle. Once I installed the Cargraphic secondary mufflers, I no longer notice any extraneous noises (rattle), just a nice mellow growl upon start up and idle.

I would think the extra vibration is normal considering the "pipes within a box" which it replaced. If there's no metallic noise associated with it, I'd say they are mounted very tight, which is what you want. Better to have vibration only as opposed to vibration and the sound of metal banging against metal (rattle).

My next project was going to be the gundo hack. I wonder if this vibration is strictly on the 997.2? Sub'd.

You bypass the Primary at the rear, or the 2 Secondary Mufflers on the sides?

The installation instructions from Sharkwerks do note that some PDK owners have reported the same thing you are noticing. I notice it slightly on my car as well. You can adjust the clamps some and see if it helps.

Those ring tensioners are what holds the part to the car, and could be the cause of vibration if too loose. See how tight they are.

I assume (in neutral) as soon as you raise the rpms slighty the vibration disappears? It should.

hey steve, as mentioned in the instructions (and site) we've seen it a few times before, only on some PDK cars at idle with the foot on the brake right before leaving from a stop. Some of the cars have newer software on there with a slightly raised idle vs the older versions. In fact, when it's happened before we've raised the idle by only 50rpms in the software and no more vibration at idle. One can try to ween it out with loosening the clamps a little or really adjust those side mufflers (it comes from them because if/when we change those out there's no vibration at all) but if it's an issue still let us know and we can either try to help or just take it back etc...

So only some the PDK cars are experiencing this vibration?
