SSK- which one to choose?

Hi All,

I'm getting ready to replace my regular **** **** with SSK. I was wondering if there's any reason to pay premium for oem SSK or some of the aftermarket brands like B&M will do equal job for almost half the price. Thanks in advance.

I went with the b&m kit. I know that it resides in the stock cradle which is Plastic but the lever and couplers were aluminum. Plus it's somewhat adjustable to dial in how tight you want.

I put in the B&M kit last weekend and have been very happy with it. I did it myself and found that breaking out the plastic bushings on the OEM shifter was a bit of a pain. With the OEM SSK, you replace the entire unit, so that step isn't necessary. I haven't driven the OEM version, so I can't really compare. BTW - if you are planning to do it yourself, I found a thread that had instructions for replacing the shifting cables. That thread had a very good description of how to remove the trim around the shifter, to get to it in the first place. The instructions that come with the B&M kit were weak in that regard. IMHO.

I bought my car from a pcar dealer used and was not aware what shifter I had in the car. I picked up the B & M piece(which feels much better made(aluminum parts vs all plastic) and went to install it in my car. Once I took the center console out I saw sharpie marks on my cable and realized I had the porsche OE short shifter installed by the previous owner. I went ahead and installed the B & M as it just looked better anyway. For me there is no question the B & M SSK is better than the OEM SSK. The shifts click into place and the B&M can be adjusted while the OE cannot. Save your $150 and take it from someone that has had both. B & M is better.

Thanks a lot guys. As always great to know your opinion. It looks like I'll go with B&M. Alanm: do you have link to this tread?

I've had both. The last was the factory part which made the install pretty straight forward.

The tech who I respect and has worked on my cars for over 7 years told me to do the OEM and I trust him implicitly! I did and I love this mod so if the B & M is better it would be hard to believe.

if you try the numeric shifter you will never use another. 3 different shift height adjustments and a true work of art. its a shame to put a boot over it

I have OEM SSK on mine and zero regrets. It was an extremely simple swap and no adjustments were needed.
