According to this Porsche is ranked 2nd. But I have owned honda and bmws and they have been just as reliable in the initial couple of years. Can someone explain this better? I don't seem to understand how mini did so bad and Audi did below avg. and people still seem to be happy with the cars. Some folks i even talked to never had any issues. So I am a little confused.

What are they talking about here???

thanks

Aron is infamous around these parts
Garbage in, garbage out.... JD Power is based on voluntary survey data within narrow windows of time. For the purpose of statistical analysis, there is no common baseline to compare results. i.e. Customers with complaints will be more likely to complete a survey than customers who have no complaints.

Additionally, the survey data does not account for response probability; meaning if a guy buys a $180,000 Mercedes SL65 and a screw falls out, he is more likely to return the vehicle for service with a loaner vehicle from his dealer. A guy buying a $15k Chevy pickup is more likely reinstall the screw. Premium brands tend to encourage owners to return their vehicle shortly after delivery to correct potential defects. A practice that makes the domestics shudder.

Finally, some of the data is implicit based on brand experience. Consumer Reports is the worst at this - they are a fraud. They report on cars they have never seen or studied.

In short, JD Power can make for good marketing if you are on top, but generally worthless to the consumer.
