Windshield replacement costs?

My Macan s windshield chip
Very good points here. I installed auto glass for 15 years,stopped doing it in 2000. Did high quality work, trained by my father who did it for 35 years.
Dealerships often change vendors, mostly cost related. So finding quality techs can be difficult. Safelite has always had issues with quality, they are a large nationwide chain and are decent at most regular cars. There simply not trained or have the time to do the quality required for Porsches and the like, they do have some decent techs though, but like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Pm me if any of you would like any recommendations in the east bay.

If its an insurance claim, you can request oem. Safelite has great marketing and service, and some of their techs are good, but when i was in the game, they were bottom of the barrel.. I did many warranty work from them, 80's and 90's.....get OEM from a good local installer, the local quality body shops will have the proper connections for you....

Had mine replaced twice. First vendor, NATIONALLY KNOWN, really screwed up the install, a generic windshield by the way. The tech did not seat it correctly and did not mount per specs. I was not happy so insurance ok'd dealer recommended vendor and OEM windshield. 2nd attempt was perfect.
Replacement windshield and labor was free, as all are in Florida through insurance, due to climate I'm told.
IMO go with trusted vendor and get OEM glass. The dealer recommended vendor told be that the faulty install was so bad the glass could have popped out at high speed, not something I want to experience.

Thanks for the part numbers!
Just had mine replaced under insurance with $0 deductible. The installer said there is only OEM for the 997.1 with the antenna wires in the glass, no aftermarkets.
Directly from the sales receipt dated 12/5/12
Glass (Safelite part no: FW02554GYYOEM) = $571.41
Glass Install Kit = $40
Rain Sensor Kit (Safelite part no: FSK-2117) = $11.10
Labor = $200.10
Tax = $45.29
---------------
Total = $867.90

Ouch, that's a lot less than what I paid.

Semi's post was from 2012. I wonder if Safelite installed the glass. Dealer quoted me almost $1500 minus $500 deductible thru insurance.

Pricing is accurate. Mi did mine 2 times last year
I called local p dealer in Huntington, NY and they told me they use Atlantic Auto Glass. There is only 1 aftermarket glass made by Pilkington and it is inferior to OEM. I called Geico as I have full glass coverage and they authorized OEM. Atlantic did a GREAT job, although the first time they brought aftermarket and I had to tell them to take a hike and come back.
Unfortunately 2 weeks later a rock chipped the new windshield. I called Geico and Atlantic again. Geico had no issue authorizing another OEM windshield, but Atlantic refused to do it a second time at the first price. I have no idea what their issue was. I called safelight and they did it. The first time the windshield popped and they had to redo it. The second time they set it well, but got glue all over my car. They made a huge mess.
Long story short, the prices quoted are accurate. Dealers sub it out so any reputable local firm is ok. Insurance will pay for OEM if you refuse aftermarket. The technician is more important than the company. In fact request that 2 tech be sent to ensure it is set correctly and neatly. WATCH them and ensure they do sneak in aftermarket glass.

OEM will state "made a n Germany" or " made in Poland". The aftermarket will be labeled FY I believe.

I have an FY so it's China. It looks great and is sealed well. The radio works fine. It was installed by the independent Porsche shop seller's windshield people just before I bought the car. I had a PPI done at a nearby Porsche dealer and the only negative was stone chips in the windshield. I wanted the car to be perfect when I bought it since it was an as is deal and I was driving 650 miles that day.

Windshield hit by a pebble on my 2008 911 driving from Missoula to Spokane. Porsche dealer uses Safelite for replacement. They had one in stock which they shipped overnight to Missoula. It was not OEM but they and the dealer assured me it was exactly same spec as OEM. Safelight in Missoula did an outstanding job. It took 2.5 hours to do the job because it is a Porsche. Charged me exactly what was quoted. $328.90, installed. Very satisfied. I was also told that they will not use any glass made in China. Used to but no more.
