As winter is here I haven't driven my car much and most recently did not drive it for 2 weeks. Today the battery was dead and I had it jump started. -Drove it at highway speeds for 45mins, came back out and same problem dead battery and car couldnt start..finally got it jumped again to get home.

Question is does the CPO warranty cover this battery replacement if needed and is it unusual for the battery to drain like this in just two weeks of no driving? I have a 20 year old car that starts on spot even when not driven for a month or more.

Last question is if I had to replace and pay for another one-should I stick to the dealer OEM battery and let them do it with the price markup or should I order one from SunCoast and do it myself?

As always, all your feedback is most appreciate. I like to get the car good and ready to drive as soon as possible and live in the South Bay Area, CA.

My 08 Cayenne S battery was just replaced under CPO.

 

If they don t replace it for free go to Walmart or a similar store..... save yourself money. Ask them by phone so they don t have the car. Maybe you have a friend with the simple tool that can see if the alternator is charging??? Not sure shipping a battery is cost effective.

 

There are a few threads here to search with some good advice. I paid full boat at a dealer. You save hundreds by avoiding dealers. Just make sure you get the correct battery for a specification standpoint. If not it could cause premature wear on your alternator.

If you are not sure then go to someplace like NAPA and they will set you up and can even put it in if that s not your thing.

 

I just had mine replaced under cpo warranty.
Battery was 250 and labour 150 ... so around 460 in total.

You could get the battery discounted at your dealers and install yourself . And just have everything reset at the next service.

Mine match Suncoast prices then give a further pca discount ....

 

$460 for a battery is crazy (IMO)....

Just put a top of the line Interstate in wifes car for around 100 bucks. Takes 10 mins..

 

If your not picky, the Audi battery is the same (save for the Audi Name on it) and is half the price.
$150 for install? Really? For 15 minutes work?

 

You have x-number of days from purchase date for your battery to be covered. Call your dealer. Mine was 40-days over the battery-warranty period so they did not cover it.

 

2 hours labour figures on a battery change and systems reset.
Includes checking fluids and pressures etc and a wash.
Cpo parts prices are charged without any discount. I think the genuine one I bought for my 964 lastpart year was 110 plus ca sales tax so 125

 

Thanks guys- due to scheduling prior to this holiday weekend I didnt have time to run out and purchase a battery and do a self install to save some big bucks.

Dealer was down the street so I just gave it to them for $388 parts and labor to get deed done before the weekend. -Going to get a battery tender..lessons learned. Dealer did say they would not replace the battery under warranty due to Porsche's miles drive per year requirement,etc..

 

Glad you got piece of mind now...but you could have saved $200 and gotten a battery with a 3 year replacement warranty - no questions asked, no minimum mileage.

 

Yeah no doubt - I had one of those days and didnt have time as the dealer was closer and I needed the car to be up and running to get around as I didnt have my daily driver today =(

 

My 2011 Carrera GTS with CPO warranty wouldn't start this AM, called Roadside and was told my battery has gone bad. They jump start it and I drove it to my local P dealer immediately. Thinking the battery would be covered by CPO. The SA had the battery tested, sure enough it needed to be replaced. Told me that CPO does not cover batteries, would be about $450 out of my pocket. At that point, I was like oh well, what the heck, since I am here, go ahead and replace it. As I was waiting in the waiting area, I search the P Forums then went to look at Porsche's CPO site...TO MY SURPRISE!!!...

HECK YEAH!, NONE OF THEM APPLIES TO ME, so I am covered, right? I showed this to my SA immediately and told him that I am not going to pay for the battery replacement since it's covered under CPO, then he went to get the GM. I showed it to him and he said that P will not cover it but he would split the cost with me. I live on principle, so still try to get it covered under CPO. As I was there, I called (800)-POR-SCHE to ask about this, the lady on the phone was rude and said that battery was not covered even after she saw what I saw and read it to me. I asked to speak with someone else that can help, she said they will all tell me the same thing, so didn't transfer me. I was PO'd at the service I received from the P lady (USELESS!). I ended up paying for half and the GM is going to try to get it CPO'd and if he is successful, he will reimburse me the $. I just can't believe that Porsche will say one thing on their website and have a different story elsewhere. Was satisfied on how my dealer handled the situation but not how Porsche handled it.
