Wheels BBS CH-R or HRE P40
Quite a debate you guys have going here. I'd like to clear up a couple things regarding HRE.
- BBS and Rays make a great product and we'd be fine with you choosing either of those brands. If you have questions about HRE, we are more than happy to answer those questions, but please don't make up things that others may believe and lump us in with the likes of most other American forged wheel companies that actually are pretending to make a quality, performance product.
- If by Foo-Foo, street-only wheels you mean:
- 2009/2010 Grand Am 24 Hr. of Daytona - 1st Place GS Class - Rum Bum Racing
- 2010 Grand Am Continental Cup Championship - GS Class - Fall Line Motorsports
- 2012 Grand Am Continental Cup Championship - GS Class - Rum Bum Racing
- 2011 & 2012 American Iron Northwest Region Champion - Chris Cobetto/ PAS Racing
- 2011 American Le Mans - West Racing Lamborghini - Limited Schedule
- 2-Time Pikes Peak World Record holder
- 2010 Formula Drift Champion - Vaughn Gittin Jr./Falken Tire
- 2011 Formula Drift 2nd Place - Justin Pawlak/Falken Tire
- 2012 Formula Drift 2nd Place - Vaughn Gittin Jr./Falken Tire
- Gumpert Apollo Nurburgring Fastest Production Lap record
- 2009-2012 Time Attack - Multiple track and class records - Chris Rado Scion TC
- 2010 Texas Mile 249.7 MPH - Heffner Performance Ford GT
- 2010 Texas Mile 247.7 MPH - Autobanh Toyota Supra
- We do not have an in-house forging press, but that doesn't mean our forgings are any less strong than a BBS or Rays. Our supplier has some of the best equipment in the world and they provide the same quality forgings to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, and Boeing, to name a few.
- HREs are not the cheapest product available, but if you're looking for a stylish and lightweight wheel, with the amount of customization only HRE can offer, made to order in about 4 weeks, and will stand behind the product for as long as you own it, then HRE stands alone.
hell yes........HRE!
I had a set of expensive lightweight wheels that cracked after a few track days. Had my daughter in the car, and did a little blast up to 95mph, when I started hearing a funny noise from the wheel. Pulled off the freeway, and after inspecting brakes and tires, I noticed a hairline crack in 2 of the spokes.
also, did u buy new or used ?
i only ask the second question because i read of plenty people who purchase a used defective wheels from a private party.

Can vouch for hre quality. Light and tough. BBS no doubt has a reputation already difficult to surpass. But its like mobil and amsoil or probably redline. Mobil has reputation but does not mean others are less quality.

Rather have the added weight than worrying about a wheel coming apart. Another plus for the BBS was a 9in front wheel so you can run a 245. Very happy with these wheels. Also, the wheel ring is stainless, so not simple to paint, but got a quote from one shop at $560 but that includes new rings which cost over $200.

BBS all day ...I've had my HREs crack on my 996. I replaced the barrel for about $400 but it was still a pain.
can u share the manufacturer's name ?

Not trying to bash any manufacturers, which is why I omitted the make. Not my intent, but just wanted to share my experience. They were new wheels. I was told that it's quite common because of heat generated at the track. We'll see how the CH-R's hold up.

While on Tirerack's website there is no writing on the black or silver CH-R wheels, I've seen many cars with black BBS CH-R's with the "MOTORSPORT" lettering. So I'm still curious as to how it can be ordered with or without "MOTORSPORT". I'd want the writing on my wheels.
Here's one example:
IIRC, all ch-r's destined for the US market do not have the motorsport lettering. the motorsport lettering was from their first batch of wheels or wheels destine for the euro market.
If you want "motorsports" on the wheel look up a place called baan velgen ( no affiliation). They have the wheels witb writing for a reasonable price. I would ask about import duties and if BBS USA would warranty wheels bought from overseas if they had issues. I decided against writing to keep more of a OEM appearance. I dont believe any silver or black porsche fitment wheels have writing from BBS USA distributors.
I think that tirerack wheel pic is a generic stock photo. Ask Damon @ tirerack.

Do u want other members to purchase such an inferior wheels at high premium if they are not upto the task ? Or are u saying that ur wheel was an exception to the manufactirer's normal quality control ?
[QUOTE=Mspeedster;3734943]That's not entirely correct.

Here's one example:
NO "MOTORSPORT" lettering on POrsche CH-R whhels as they are designed to accept PORSCHE OEM caps and they thought it would look to cluttered with the design necessary to accept the OEM cap. Same whether it is in Europe or USA. Motorsport is still on wheels designated for other makes.
