Ok is there anything that you can replace the aerial with that looks better?

The list of options I have for the car has Bose listed on it, so will have to check its there. It lists heated seats as well and I don't remember seeing the button for them. Driver seat controls all seemed to work fine as wife tried sitting in it as well. I didn't check passenger side yet.

I also opened the glove box and was surprised how far it opened. Is that normal felt to me like something should have stopped it opening as wide as it did. I have a picture of it because I thought it was a little strange. Cup holders worked fine....for some reason I always have to play with those when I get in a 997

Unless 05s are an exception I don't see the bose logo on the door speakers. Also the cab bose has the subwoofer in the front passenger footwell and as such has a funny curved cut on the left side of the floormat which is also missing.

The car does not have heated seats. The button resides above the fan and temp buttons. Should look like this:

I don't mean to jump in and throw any thoughts that may derail your purchase decision, but the price on this car is fairly high for what it is and it is a very low optioned car. Not having heated seats in a cab is really a tough thing to give up when you live where you live (they are a tough thing to give up where I live as well - my GT3 has them and I am glad). I did a search and found a number of lower mileage / higher option examples for not much more than what this dealer is asking. If you could swing another $6-$10K, you could get a 2006 with less miles and more options. This eliminates the IMS paranoia (but it does bring a battary to alternator cable issue into it I believe). Just don't jump in too quickly - this one may be a great example and the dealer may come off the price substantially - I don't know, but it pays to be patient. Just my $0.02. Good luck with it no matter what. Shopping is half the fun to me.

Thanks for the advice. Will see what I can do on and if there is no budge then will move on and find something else.

On price I am near the limit to be honest of what I want to pay. It is purely a toy and hard to justify family having to give up anything for. I came into this whole process looking for a Boxster S which I really love but then I saw this and thought it might be worth stretching too.

I don't suppose anyone knows a good detailer in the Middleton /Lowell MA area that I could pay to run up and take a once over of the car. Check paint levels etc as well as give an assessment on the condition of the car and how much to put it right if I pulled the trigger?

Thanks

In the most recent issue of Excellence (the one with the RUF 991 Turbo on the cover) there was an article towards the back on having a PPI done and various things you should look for and questions you should ask. It couldn't hurt to give it a look. The copy may now be available on-line.

I have the PPI the dealer had done on the car just a few miles ago... as in less than 30 miles.

The PPI was performed by Porsche of Nashua. The dealer had taken the car in to have a problem with the rear spoiler repaired and the PPI
performed.

PPI highlighted the following things. Car will be due a 40 k Service, Brake Flush and Spark Plugs. Ignition coils are cracking, left rear strut is leaking (recommended both rear struts) and the Glove box latch is broken. No Drivetrain Leaks. Brakes and Tires are OK.

Note in the Tire Code Section does say WORST.

Options listed out are
Instrument Dials in Black.
Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors
19 inch Carrera Classic Wheels
Three-spoke multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather (only with PCM)
Rod Antenna
Sport Chrono Package Plus
Navigation Module for PCM
Power Seats

Talked to dealer the service has been performed and everything has been corrected. Although I think he missed the Glove box because it definitely opens to far according to a friend of mine who said his never opened like that. He also said he would have the car detailed and the car has a 90 day warranty. Although I wouldn't drive it until I had the third party warranty as well.

I have received a quote from Carchex for Gold at 4125 for 3 years and Platinum level at 4560. Not sure which one I need so any advice in this area would also be great.

So that's the story. P-car dealer probably got the car as a trade-in. Car is in sad shape and they didn't want to put the money into it to make it CPO or sell it to an unsuspecting customer with all those things that needed fixing. So it went to auction.

Your talking big money here. Depending on where you go: $1k+ for the 40k at an indy, ~$1000 for coils, plus >$1500 in tires and a 4 wheel alignment. I have no idea on the struts. And your buying a warranty for another $4k. Plus I looked at the interior again and it's pretty ragged.

And by the way instruments in black is a no charge option.

I'd walk.

Only thing I would say is dealer said all these things had already been fixed.

Glove box not being though does make me weary.

I am new around here, however i can share some of my experienced with you, I just got my first 911 and I expend quite some time looking and shopping around, all the way from Champion in Pompano beach FL (named the biggest Porsche dealer in the world if you believe the marketing kick), all the way to Tennessee.

Price seen a bit high on that vehicle, and the way it had all those issues listed should be enough to keep you away, as someone said earlier the dealer just didn't want to expended the extra cash to bring the vehicle to a CPO level.

I've seen several on your budget that are in better shape, Champion had one (blue) 07 C2S Cab with only 18K miles for 54K (that one just come to mind since i was kind of interested on it), it took me a long while to get the one I really wanted, my 2 cent is don't sattle and wait around for the one you really want/like, it will come around sooner than later.

Just playing devils advocate here but if dealer really has repaired all the issues listed in ppi and done the 40k service should that not be fine. If the warranty was included in price would this car then be a reasonable purchase. Or is just a lame duck full stop?
