Painting stock S exhaust tips

Thinking on painting my 2010 S stock exhaust tips. In doing a little research it looks like Ceracote is the way to go. I guess a regular powder coat won't hold up to the heat.

I am wanting to do a gloss black. Looks like it maybe a two step process with a base coat followed by a high temp clear coat. Anyone have any experience with ceramic coatings?

I took mine to a speed shop and they did a great semi-gloss black ceramic, I think it was around $100. They never chipped or discolored.

Using the "paint" term very loosely. This is not Krylon. Ceracote (ceramic coating) is a specialty coating for high temp parts (headers, gun barrels, etc). I am not doing this myself. Local guy that has been doing this for 15+ yrs is who will do it. Trying to decide between the Ceracote, which would be an opaque gloss black, or Black Chrome. Guess it really boils down to personal preference.

Look for ceramic coating in your area.I had mine done in black for $60 bucks!
Ceramic coating will hold and look great for any heat applications.

Had a friend do his tips in black (gloss) powdercoating. They are holding up just fine.

I would think regular powder coating would hold up fine. The tips shouldn't get that hot, even with track use. But almost everyone in the hot rod business tells me that it won't hold up.

The stock exhaut tips (any style) are double walled, so the outside surface of what is being powdercoated or ceramic coated is not exposed to direct exhaust heat. Yes, they get burn-your-fingers-hot but not enough to affect the coating.

If the price between powder and ceramic coating is about the same...step it up and ceramic coat it!

one hot day (11 laps) at the track completely pulverized my black powdercoated tips. Looked like my tailpipes had been snorting cocaine. Nothing but white powder left on them. I recommend ceramic.
