best radar detector, LI, laser jammers setup for SoCal?

Hi everyone,

I've been driving/enjoying my 997 for a few weeks now and I had realize that it's really hard to drive under speed limit, since a lot of times these last few weeks when I'm on the 405 or 5 fwy I have easily hit 80, 90, even 100 mphs without even noticing it.

So, I'm really considering getting a radar/laser detector since I dont wanna run the risk of getting a big speeding ticket, (already had one from last year on my previous car going at 84mph and my insurance has gone up a lot), I live in SoCal (orange county), and from what Ive been reading here on the forums I'd like some help recommending the best one or setup for SoCal since I believe depending where you live, LEO either use laser or radar, can anyone tell me here in Socal what is that they use? laser or radar? or both? and so what will be the best setup?

I think many of you either go with V1 or the Escort 9500ic, will any of those be enough? or will you go further with Escort 9500ix and do laser jammers (even though they are illegal here in CA)

From what I read, a lot of people like the V1 cause of its arrows but they hate the too many false alarms, whereas from what I read it seems the 9500ic doesnt give too many false alarms but also no arrows. is there a way to configure the V1 so it doesnt give that many false alarms, I wanna enjoy my drive and listen to music, instead of the beep beep beep every 5 seconds all day long every day of the week.

thank you

I would go with the V1 (which i have and love) and Laser Interceptor for the laser Jammer, however if as you said, laser Jammer are illegal in there, I would stay away from it.

If you think a radar detector will keep you from getting speeding tickets think again.

There are times and places where a bit of excess speed is ok but these are few and far between for those of us that live in populated areas. My high speed excursions are almost always reserved for way out in the middle of no where.

I have a V1 have had it now for around 10 years. It is a fantastic piece of equipment.

I love the arrows because it lets me know where the threat is. Now this may not be that important where you are but often I'm on the open highway and I want to know if the threat is up ahead lying in wait, coming towards me, or coming up from behind or perhaps just a cruiser parked at a freeway off ramp diner while the officer is in having a donut and a cup of coffee.

The false alarms do not bother me and in fact I use them to remind me first and foremost to pay more attention to my driving and that of other drivers around me.

A more attentive driver is a safer driver and I want to be a safer driver.

While I have encountered laser I have not been cited by an officer using laser. I do not feel a laser jammer is necessary given where I live/drive.

v1

I highly recommend the V1. I've used it in LA for many years and it's worked great. I'm sure you can find information out there regarding how great it is and how people love the arrows.

with respect to false alarms, I don't get too many. There are 'logic' settings for the v1, and you can make the v1 filter out many of the mis hits (when it filters, it goes off on a different audio setting, which you can turn all the way down). For example, I leave it in L2, so it only really goes off when there is a real cop around. Hope this helps and good luck!

I haven't felt the need to go with a radar jammer. It's also illegal, so I'd rather not mess with that...

the arrows on V1 are helpful.

u can have Valentine re-program ur V1 to only detect Ka and laser. Calif LEO does not use X or K anymore.. and re-programming will get rid of the annoying false alarms from auto doors, etc.

LI has the best protection vs Laser. The 9500ci laser protection is questionable.

However, the best protection, even if u have the above, is situational awareness.

BTW, i have the 9500Ci on my 997.

Got stopped doing 95 in a 35 at 7.30am on a sunday. Road was empty, he wasn't shooting radar, he must have been on a side street and saw a white blurrrr wiz by. I pulled over, he approached the car. I said" Sorry officer it got away from me!! this car is hard to keep under 100mph. He said " Go do that out on "27" (rural highway) and let me go without ever checking my license or insurance. My point is a radar detector will not help in all situations. But i do see an advantage on long trips in places your not familiar with. Also never lie to a officer!! Just admit it. A 911 is so sexy and bad *** they have to let you go. I also told the officer that at 95mph i was only at 1/2 the cars potential. (Honesty somtimes is the best answer) Caution, Sport Plus on a GTS can get get you behind bars real quick. I got lucky that day, and will try not to do it again. (Just dont push those buttons) Sport/Srort Plus

The SoCal Lidar guns know when their being jammed (jammer symbol on their display). You could try instant off tactics but Ive been told by some LEO friends that even a null reading will send them after you and the ticket is extremely expensive. Not worth it imho. Stick to a V1 like others have said and drive smart which is different than not driving fast.

I was under the impression that laser shifters and jammers were illegal in California.

Why do you say "The 9500ci laser protection is questionable?

what I had read and personaly heard from people who have it around this area (ATL, GA Most LEOs use laser), it really works 1 out 10s times. , personally know 2 people that sold their units and replace it with V1 + LI combo
