Just joined the club!
Hi all -
It's actually been about a month since the purchase of my very first Porsche, a 2007 997 C2 w/ 50k miles - but wanted to introduce myself to the 6speed community.
So far, I've had to do some maintenance items, like replace the RMS and IMS cover plate seal + clutch swap, which really hurt $$, but I hope, foundation-ally, I've reset the clock on the major service items.
I just changed the oil to establish my own interval, and plan on doing the water pump and spark plugs myself later this month.
Where I came from: I recently sold my Lotus Elise, and prior to, I had a Z4M Coupe and a few miatas (still have an NA version). I used to race (HPDE's) the BMW and Miata's often, but after a recent house purchase, not much of that going on (but hope to again soon). Either way, I am absolutely loving the 911 and hope that this will keep me busy for years to come.
That said, if anyone has a great deal on a GT3 wing and an aerokit bumper, please send me a note!
Here are some pics the wifey took!
Best,
John

Careful, once you start modding you cannot stop. At first I was just interested in a few cosmetic stuff and now I am buying something every week!

Re: the modding bug -
One thing that boggles my mind is the "Porsche tax" - where parts and/or labor are 2 - 3x more expensive than other German or Japanese counterparts.
Let's take exhaust tips for example - why in the world are a set of tips 1) NOT included with an already exorbitantly priced set of mufflers, and 2) >= $500?
I suppose a positive aspect to this is that margins are protected and the aftermarket industry for this segment reaps the benefits, but I was nonetheless, shocked at the difference.
I know I'm completely ignoring other factors in my argument like: low volume, US and Europe manufacturing, the Japanese aftermarket community has super slim margins (and has an undercutting problem), etc.
End run (sounds like I've effectively nullified my own statements) - It seems like the price for parts (regardless of actual cost), is proportional to the income required to purchase and own a vehicle like this. I guess I can get on that exclusivity game, begrudgingly of course

You do slowly become anesthetized to the sticker shock. Takes time but one day some aftermarket company is gonna quote you $1,000 for dive planes and you’ll think to yourself “hey, that’s not too bad.”
