I am 99% sure the dealextreme one I linked is identical to the ones I sourced from China. They are 36mm.

The actual socket in the license plate bulb holders seem to have a fair bit of wiggle room. I bet they will fit 34-40mm or so.

For license plate lights, I have these in now (about 15 months) and they look nice. About as close to white as you can get - not blue-white-ish like most LEDs out there and not over powering either. Not < $2 but then again, Stacy taught us all to spend big, right?

Good luck

Thanks for the link. I replaced all my interior bulbs with a $30 Ebay set and they look great. Wanted to do the same for the license plate, but not at the prices I had seen.

These are the one's I bought. They all work great, are a much brighter, whiter light and produced no error codes.

I emailed the local component manufacture distributor guy, and he told me he had seen those, he is going to send me a quote later today or Monday for 3 pair of the 42mm, 2 for the licenses plate, 1x engine compartment lid, 1x luggage compartment, 1x front dome) and 3 pairs of the wedge one (2x footwell, 2X doors, 2x front dome).

I'll update this thread with whatever he tells me, he said he is confident that the whole set should be below $50 (and shipped from the US)

After looking at it a little more I feel like my LEDs are a little bit more blue than I'd like, so I'll probably try some others. IMHO they should look stock and they're just a tiny bit too cool.

I don't trust the color temperatures advertised by these manufacturers at all. I found the exactly same part #s advertised with 4500K, 5000K, 6000K, and 6500K from different distributors.

Even for $5 and two minutes of my time, this license plate light mod doesn't interest me. I can't see my license plate while I'm driving and I don't need the drivers behind me to be able to see it better. I'm going to stick with the more reliable incandescent lamps.

So other than looking cool, what purpose do these lights serve? Is it lower power pull from the battery? I know LED is the "IN" thing, Just wondering.

I got all my bulbs off ebay, did the whole car for less than 80 USD
The footwells are tricky though. I had to return a couple until I got the right high intensity one. Or you can just openup the light there and replace with a 4 or 2 LED bulb

I can't understand why anyone would want to attract MORE attention to your cars license plate. My goal is to keep the cops looking at other cars, not mine.

Yes, as most people do... Not sure I understand the age thing?
