Driving a Manual

Good Day 6speed members,

I drive a CPO 997 Carrera with 21K miles and have noticed that whenever I arrive at my destination, I can always smell the clutch as I exit the vehicle. The smell is not like a burning clutch smell but rather just a hot smell (sorry if that is not making much sense). My commute is 1 mile and includes a few stops. My typical driving is starting off in 1st and keeping the revs above 1,000. Can someone chime in and let me know if this is common or am I doing something wrong? I have a lot of experience driving manuals but I can admit that when it comes to rev matching/blipping the throttle, I could use some practice. With that said, some might dub me Captain Slow for driving sports cars within the speed limit.

If Jeremy Clarkson were to desribe my driving, I believe he would say "some say he drives miss daisy".

Thanks in advance for the input and/or advice.

Cosmoline...and I'm surprised the engine can get hot enough with a 1 mile drive.

I get the same thing. Been driving manual since I was 16 and on my last car the clutch didn't show any signs of wear after 85,000 miles, but with my '05 C2S I smell what smells like rubber burning after a 5-6 mile drive. I've tried going for a long drive keeping it in one gear then coasting to a stop in neutral, and I still get the smell so I'm confident it's not clutch.

Hmmm...my '06 Carrera S never smelled like that. And my '02 M3 had cosmoline on it's underside as well and it never smelled like that. Since it's a CPO car, I'd drop by the dealer some day have them smell it.

Good luck,
cdw

my 2011 GTS with PDK will put off a burn odor after driving in Sport Plus for a short time. Was told that the burning smell was normal when in the higher revs. Done this from day one- 6,400 miles on it now....

Its Perfectly normal. 21k miles on mine and love the stink. I will worry when it doesn't smell that way.
I would save the trip to the dealer

I've had the same smell every time I drive the car. It is a combination of the clutch and the brakes... depending on how you drive the car of course. I like to push the loud pedal, so consequently I am usually mashing the brake pedal just as much.

I also installed a set of Fister D mufflers, which were ceramic coated and painted black, so now I have that aroma as well. I don't mind.
