my buddy got a nail in the rear tire of his new 997S. it was a Pirelli came with the car. he called up one of his patient who owns a tire place and the guy promise to take good care of him.

he just called and told me the tire is replaced with a new one and was charged $500 for it. i told him that sound like a lot. he told me that the car told him there are two types of Pirelli, despite the same model number. one is "porsche certified", which would be the same one that came with the car. while the other is not certified and it's about 100 cheaper, eventhough they are the same model. the guy even offer to show him the receipt from tirerack which cost almost that much.

now, is this bunch of BS, and was he screwed? so much for a "hook up".

TR retail is 390 on the N version of that one...maybe there is installation charge and sales tax to bring it to 500?

 

I would locate the owner of the nail and litigate.

 

maybe that is true, but sounds like a lot of surcharge especially with the "special discount" he offered.

 

It is true that there is a Porsche certified tire and a non certified tire. I don't know about the pricing difference though.
