I'm back into a Porsche(2006 C4S) again after spending time with BMW's and want to add a plenum,intake,headers,exhaust,etc....I can see there are many vendors advertising here but I wanted to ask how one goes about choosing the items or packages....the car is a DD and not raced or autocrossed...my commute is about 40-50miles/day. Whats the consensus?

 

IMO with the facts given, I d leave it alone. Maybe Gundo hack for the exhaust to improve the sound(cheap mod). Save the money and in a few years upgrade to a turbo if you need a faster car. Not trying to be funny, but what do you wish to accomplish?
If I had to chose one thing and I was not worried about a warrenty I d consider a ECM tune.

 

just browse the 997 boards for a bit and you'll see what people prefer and who is buying/upgrading to what. as for brands, there are many quality brands that make great products. personally, i chose fabspeed, cargraphic and evo, but there are others that are just as good. when i get an ecu tune this spring, pretty sure i'm going with a softronic tune. good luck and have fun throwing money at the car.

 

Get some quality wheels for some bling, lowering springs (nothering too severe), do the intake and exhaust for the sound (+1 on the Gundo), and maybe a good ECM tune-up if you have any coin left over. Anything past that, considering your DD needs, would be counter-productive.

Sound and a some minor performance improvement = lighter better flowing mufflers, 200 cell cats, X51 headers and CAI.

I went with Tubi cans, NHP cats and EVO intake and loving every minute of my drive.
I'm still considering the ECU flash if i can find enough empirical proof that it would actually enhance performance.

 

fc2s....thanks...how did you decide which brand etc of all that you put on it?....the Tubi exhaust reps tell me its the "Italian sound"....uhh....I want a "german sound"....whatever that really means..I get it as far as better breathing and exhaust....have you been able to measure or estimate HP gains? And what about real world driveability with all that? ....sounds like fun ...

 

I listend to some 997s with tubi they seem to sound very good as well as the akrapovic.

 

Okay, I'll go. 2007 C4S with AWE headers and 200 cell cats (used), Gundo modified mufflers, IPD plenum, Fabspeed CAI (red hose), BMC filter and Softronic ECU tune. Had the car dyno'd on a Mustang dyno after the mods. Before you ask, no I have no before dyno so I'm just sharing the information I do have with insites shared by the dyno operator and not claiming anything specific. I will say that the car pulls smoother and feels faster.

My dyno results show 313 rwhp and 271 rwtq. The dyno operator said he rarely sees a 997.1 C4S with greater than 300 rwhp. He suggested I use a 20% loss factor for an awd driveline loss factor versus flywheel. So, if you do the math this equates to 391 (391/0.8) flywheel hp and 339 (271/0.8) flywheel torque versus 355 hp and 295 torque claimed for stock. You can can disagree with and manipulate the loss factor; however, I'm satisfied that the dyno confirms what I perceive when I drive the car that it feels faster, pulls smoother and harder and definitely sounds nicer.
