The paint was around $3000, but nevertheless I understand where you are coming from. That same $3000 could have been allocated elsewhere, for example PASM + the Sports Chrono package would have cost under the ~$3000 price tag of the GT paint. On the other hand, it does offer a sense of prestige as it is a pretty rare color, at least in my own observation. As I said though, I had no intention of dishing out the money in the "special color" category walking into the dealership, but being as I bought her off the lot rather than having spec'd her out my own, I'm confident I made the right decision given my options from the four dealerships I visited.

As far as wheels, while I do like the 19" Classics, I'm a real sucker for a 10 spoke wheel design on the 997; two wheels that come to mind are HRE 843s and Kinesis F110s.

Yeah, that's what I had on the agenda actually. There are so many exhausts (Cargraphic, Fabspeed, Speedart, etc) and so few sound clips, so I definetely need to do my research based on feedback here on 6speed. I had a Supersprint system on my M3, which I see they also have available for the 997, which I was fairly happy with.
Consider the Porsche Sports Exhaust. There are many sound clips on the net. Check out:

Thanks for the clip! I can definetely hear that the exhaust note is much deeper and throatier than the standard exhaust. I will definetely keep this one in mind.
