Question about paint on impact areas

Hello all,

Today while inspecting my car closely, I noticed that the part of the rear bumper that completes the wheel arch (directly behind the rear wheel) has a bunch of little pits on the paint, on both sides. Granted, it's a rwd car with wide tires, so I know I should expect for debris to get picked up by the tires and projected backwards towards the bumper edges, but I didn't think a well taken care of Porsche with 29k miles would have so many little imperfections in this area. I've owned many rwd sport cars in the past and never noticed this.

Is my car the only one, or are other owners noticing the same thing? To notice, you must be very close to this area, so it's not extremely visible right away.

Thanks!!

I would imagine that the tires we run, being a softer, stickier compound, have a lot to do with that. That's the price we pay for incredible grip.

On my 09 C2S with 24,000 miles that same area looked like it had been hit with a sand blaster.

Not happy about it, but happy to know that it's not just my car. Thanks!

Curious to see how bad it is. Do you have a pic? I don't have much yet. I wonder if there is an oem mud flaps that don't look bad to eliminate this issue.

I don't have a picture of it, but even if I took one it would probably be extremely difficult to see. It's something you notice when you're just a few inches away, or by tact if you slide your hand on the surface. They are very small tiny little nicks from debris hitting it.

Since you mentioned it, I find it interesting that Porsche put something similar to a mud flap in front of the rear wheel, but not behind it, which is where one is really needed.

I think this is a result of the type of paint used on the urethane bumber. I have seen a few spots on my bumber as well. It is in an area that is not noticed so I just ignor it.

I will keep an eye on it. If need be I'll 3M that piece of the bumper.

If you're thinking about doing it, I suggest you do it now an not wait...it will get sandblasted. On previous cars (new cars) I always have paint protection film installed on this area, but given that I purchased my Pcar used and it already has marks on this area, the PPF would be pointless.

Also, anyone noticed how "soft" our windshields are? My car has a few little marks on the windshield from debris hitting it, but what I find surprising is that I found more on the windshield than the hood.
