Replacement Tires
Replacement Tires
Where do you get replacement tires from? TireRack? Any other places with competitive pricing?
I just had what seems like a nail go through one of my fronts (it seems very shallow but I'm afraid to remove it just in case it punctured all the way through), and I was wondering if I should just go with a replacement, in which case I may have to replace both fronts to keep the thread wear even.
Called the dealer and was informed that regardless of my tire having enough thread left and being salvageable, they do not repair tires per Porsche.
Suggestions?
Thank you!

if puncture is not in sidewall then easy patch on inside. Americas tire is good, have the right equipment. I go to Big O shop, many locations, maybe not in your area. Les Schwab outlets can KMA.

Assuming you're driving a 911, the professionally repair tire will 'work', meaning it will provide basic service, except the pcar is capable of +170 mph and a patch is therefore a weak spot in the tire and could rupture at speed. Doesn't seem a wise money savings unless you and subsequent drivers never push the vehicle to the upper limit. If you don't drive over 80 mph then consider using a true pro to patch the tire. They will remove the tire and install a dual patch rather then a typical service station plug.
Someone at TireRack can help with a replacement. Good Luck

I got the best price at a local tire shop... He even undercut Tirerack and did a good job. I trust a good tire shop as they do thousands of tires. I did talk with owner first and made sure he knew I expected no damage or scratches etc...
Anyone used Discount Tire before?

I've used Discount Tire and they do a good job repairing (for Free) or replacing a tire. They match internet prices (factor in shipping) too so i got a good deal on my 305's.

Thanks! This is great information...how did your wheels end up after the work? I hear they still use the bars to force the tires into place...that freaks me out a little...
Im sure Americas tire and Discount tire are one in the same. Americas tire is the retail outlet and Discount tire is the internet.
America tire will fix your flat and Discount will sell you new ones.
I believe they are one in the same

They fixed a nail puncture I had ( not sidewall ) with both a plug and patch complimentary, where others suggested I should have bought new tires. Not sure if that's their policy or because I'm a regular, but everything has been well with the repair 600 miles later and nothing was scratched or damaged in the process.
As stores, their staff, and quality of service may vary.. I'd suggest calling and speaking to your local store making sure they are very clear of your expectations that there will be no damage to your wheels during the process due to handling, etc.
I opted to have the puncture fixed as my tire had only 300 miles on them at the time.
