Problem with Rottec rear LED's, buyers BEWARE!!
I am somewhat in the middle of this.
Yes, he should be contacting the manufacturer first. However, he does have a point that LEDs should last longer.
I, myself, was looking for a used one but after reading his experience, I am now having 2nd thoughts about buying used ones.

So now you have both sides of the story - make a choice - but one problem (or even a few) shouldn't take away the need to make that choice.
I think Izzycab was not expecting warranty service. If they were contacted, the folks at Rottec Carbon should respond, even if they can't do anything about it. I wouldn't ignore support emails (even if you can't give someone any type of support.)

Think of a second hand car, no CPO no warranty. Car at some point fails.
What should the owner say ?
" Porsche buyers be aware ? "
George
I had the exact same issue that occurred 23 days after the warranty expired and RoTEC replaced them for me at their cost. It may take a few days for them to get back to you but they will. That being said, second hand lights probably have no warranty
I fix a lot of aftermarket LED tails for this very same reason. The lights will need to be sliced into with a hot knife to create access to the circuit board where you likely have a couple bad solder points. I really don't think the LEDs themselves went out, as they're very much protected by resistors and vRegs. My other guess is you have 3 LEDs out, not just 1, right?
It's totally unfair to post like this for a product bought used/2nd hand at I'm sure at a reduced price and as your the next owner, Rottec has absolutely no obligation to help you out in any way and I would be pleasantly surprised if they did after you post.
And as gkinvest stated, "Porsche buyers beware" as the engines may not last or anything else for that matter.
Gimme a break.
Perhaps a pole of how many 997 owners have them and for how long would have been a better approach.
3 years and counting for me. No issues.

"They do not last "
This is not a fair statement. Do you know when they were made? How they were handled?
This forum is for us to help each other not to give out negative vibes.
I wish you would have kept out the buyer beware part from the title of your thread. It would have saved you a lot of headache and made your post better.
Good luck

If you would of just called rottec or posted how can i replace burnt out led's then they would of probably helped you. However, knowing the customer service that received from Ray on my seats he probably will still will help you out in resolving the issue.
The bottom line is if you bought used bulbs, led bulbs have a hour life so yes they will burn out at some time. I guarantee the used lights didnt come with an hour meter.

Not sure why everyone is upset at buyers beware. Rottec's Depo's/Dectane they all have had issues. Look it up. I am just letting buyers know whether used or new, there are issues with the circuit or electronics on these lights. Not the LED's themselves.
May we know how long you had them before the issue arose? Thanks.
1 year and 23 days When they went out I was thinking it was within the one year warranty period, but I missed it by 23 days
same thing w/ mine, waiting on a response from their customer service...sent the inquiry last week
