I have, since 2009. As it was explained to me when I bought it, the Softronic 'tuned' file is directly based on the original X51 file that I uploaded and sent to Softronic for them to apply their tuning.

Over the years (and with addition of several mods, see my garage if you're interested) I've regularly switched between the Softronic and the original Porsche X51 files.

When I first switched to the Softronic map I was sure it made some improvement, but some of that was probably down to the lightened wallet and because applying the file resets the DME (as happens when you unplug the DME or disconnect the battery).

That said, the extra power and torque from the 997.1 X51 powerkit all happens from 5000-7400RPM. From 3000-4500RPM the Softronic might make a difference, but I only tend to use full power above 4500RPM so the Softronic might be wasted on me.

From my experience the biggest tangible difference with the Softronic is the raised rev limiter (from 7450 to about 7600RPM). To me that suggests the original X51 map is pretty well sorted, and leaves little if any untapped performance potential for the Softronic to unlock.

Like the Softronic map, the original Porsche X51 map adapts itself well to airflow-improving mods like the 200-cell cats and BMC filters.

I suppose this question is related to your other thread about the X51 airbox and lean running at WOT. If so then the Porsche X51 map would be a good solution for you, if you can find a Porsche dealer or specialist to apply it to your DME (done via PIWIS). If you did that you'd want the full X51 intake manifold to go with it though.

Hi Tim

I ask because I wonder if it would work if you emailed me your original and tuned files and I could try those?

I've asked Scott the same question, but it could maybe be a simple fix as my car has the majority of the X51 kit on it now, so I if it would work would you be willing to email me your files please?

I was under the impression that tuned files could only be uploaded to a specific car? If they're shareable, I'd like to try them too!!

Hi Gibbo, I'd love to help you out and please feel free to PM me, but I really don't think my files would work on your car, please see below.

I would say please do give Scott/Softronic every chance to do what they can for you, before you try anything else - I'm sure they read these boards too.

White Rock, you're right, Softronic clearly say these files are locked to the car/VIN they were originally read from, so can't be loaded on any other one. (Can't argue with tuners/mappers protecting their business.)

I do know that the Softronic flash loader only works when my laptop has a good Internet connection - presumably so Softronic can log/check all file changes.

I'd be extremely wary of trying to load a 'wrong' file: hopefully it would just throw an error and not load, but there's got to be some risk of ending up with a bricked DME.

This is a copy/paste from Softronic's published FAQs -

Q - I sold my Porsche but bought another, can I transfer the flash?
A - Unfortunately the Softronic flash is per vehicle. If you sell your one Porsche, we do want to continue business with you on your next Porsche. You can reuse your existing cable however for the new reflash.

Q - Why do I have to have an internet connection to flash my car?
A - Softronic stores all vehicle information by VIN. As well, the ECU's are all VIN coded. You cannot simply pull an ECU out of your buddies car and plug it into yours. The easiest way to maintain the file integrity and ensure proper data is entered, we have the files automatically sent to our server. Once we receive the file, we then alter it to your tuned file and have it coded for your VIN and IMOB codes so you can then reupload it to your car. This way your file is yours and only yours.

Folks,

I am pretty sure that files from one DME are not applicable to another.
It is not a copy-paste thing.

If things were so simple, then one would buy the software and 1000 Porsches would be tuned. LOL
