997.1 brake job question
I am about to change my front and rear brake pads and rotors. I have all of the supplies except the Caliper Bolts (new). Is it mandatory that these need to be changed? I spoke to Sunset to get the parts list and i do not recall them being on there.
Also, does anyone put anti-squeel paste on when changing the pads? I am not reusing the squeel/damping pads.

Just did my rears and I did replace caliper bolts. Old habit I like to replace bolts whenever I can they do stretch somewhat cheap insurance. I did not use anti squeal on the pads. Reused anti squeal pads. Pretty straight forward job not difficult although one rotor gave me a bit of a rough time with rust.
Examine your rotors carefully mine had a few very minor surface cracks and some wear so I did replace them. Good luck.

Thanks. i just ran up to Sunset and grabbed some Caliper Bolts. They said sometime the bolts warp so it is a good idea to replace them. They only had 7 in stock so I will reuse the best of my old 8. I already bought the rotors and plan to replace them as well.
Did you use the special screw driver you hit with a hammer that turns the screw? It is designed to free stuck screws like the ones in the rotors.
.
Lisle impact driver works great. Just be careful with it at first and use some kind of liquid loosener I like Aerokroil. Let it set in a while and you should have no problem. Just take you time and do one side at a time so you have a reference.

those anti squeal should come out no problem. if one is stuck, simply take a thin screwdriver (or a plastic putty knife, if you're worried about damage to caliper) and try to wedge it out. even if you break off the surrounding squeal mount, you can probably still dig out the nub from the caliper if worse comes to worst.
FYI, the caliper bolts are not the real problem, per se. the hub and hence the threads in the bolt hole are aluminum. over time/heat, the bolt threads might be a little warped BUT the main issue is to preserve those hole threads. so porsche recommends new bolts so as not to damage the hole threads. i have seen a few posts re: threads being stripped when inserting old and new bolts as well as what happened to me: the bolt simply started backing out because the hole threads gave up. but i track a lot so that was prob a factor. i now have helicoils on the front caliper bolts so no more worry about that any longer.
